William R. "Bill" "Scotty" Scott, a Butte native, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, following a short battle with cancer. Bill was born on February 7, 1945, to John Scott and Merle Ninnow Scott. He lived in Centerville most of his life where he attended St. Lawrence Elementary School and later graduated from Butte High School. He married his junior high school sweetheart Linda Knight Scott on Valentine's Day 59 ½ years ago.

"Scotty" worked for the Anaconda Company as a boilermaker for 17 years. Following the closure of "the company," Bill worked various jobs around Butte until his final job with the Butte School District as an engineer and driver of the hot lunch truck. He retired from the Butte School District in 2007 after giving 15 years of service.

Throughout the course of his life, Bill was a part of many different clubs and organizations including Cub Scouts (Scoutmaster and Webelo leader), Butte Masonic Lodge #35, and Past Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star Ruth Chapter #2, Elks Lodge & was on various bowling leagues for several years. Bill was a proud volunteer firefighter joining the Centerville Volunteer Fire Department in 1970. He selflessly gave 46 years of service to the department serving as Secretary, Trustee, and Assistant Chief. Bill continued to show up on fire calls and at meetings for years following his "retirement" in 2016.

During retirement, Bill could most often be found tinkering out in "Papa's Shop," working on projects from woodworking to fixing vehicles, welding, and anything else he could find to goof around with. He loved camping with friends and family as well as spending time outdoors. He also greatly enjoyed gardening during the summer months, and spending time with his grandchildren and his great grandchild.

Bill was preceded in death by: his parents; brother Dwayne (Dorothy) Scott; sisters June (Larry) O'Farrell and Marlene (Russell) Mott; brother-in-law Ray Knight; nephews Troy Knight and Brian Scott; and son-in-law Randy Guegel. He is survived by his wife, Linda; two children Rose Guegel and Dave (Lisa) Scott; grandchildren Nick Scott, Brianne Scott, Shawnee (Cory) Jones, and Shalyn Guegel; and his great-grandchild Liam Jones; his brothers Darryl (Judy) Scott and Tom (Marge) Scott; brothers-in-law Ralph (Elaine) Knight and Ron (Paula) Knight; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation and services for Bill will take place at Duggan Dolan Mortuary on Saturday, September 10 ^th , with visitation beginning at 1 PM and memorial service at 2 PM. There will be a small reception after the service at the Masonic Temple at 314 W Park St until 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Enhabit Hospice #BTH, located at 1940 Dewey Blvd, Butte, MT 59701, or donor's choice.
