Timothy Thomas Gerald Tracy passed away on October 19th 2017. Tim was born June 23, 1965 at silver bow general hospital in butte Montana to Ted and Geraldine (Tallon) Tracy. He attended Whittier grade school, East junior high school and graduated from Butte high school in 1983. Tim participated in many activities and sports, but wrestling was his favorite. As a freshman he wrestled for Butte high school. Tim was picked up by Tom Renz daily to go to practice at the high school. They became good friends and shared their passion for wrestling helping coach all ages. Tim was fortunate to wrestle for coach Jim Street. In his senior year he won the state title at 112# at the Butte civic center in his hometown. Under a single light and wearing a face mask due to an injury, he performed a backflip when he won. 1983 he was awarded outstanding wrestler of the year at Butte High. Tim gave kudos to coach Street saying he was tough but he made me a man. Later the Butte high wrestling teams of 1980-1981 -1983 were inducted to the Butte sports hall of fame.
Tim passed his love of wrestling onto his sons. Following high school Tim joined the Navy and served on the USS New Jersey he traveled the world and in October of 1983- his ship was deployed to Beirut Lebanon where the marines barracks were bombed during the Lebanese civil war. After his discharge from the Navy in 1987, he returned to Butte saying he never wanted to live anywhere else. He worked at the Montana State prison as a guard where he made many lifelong friendships. He then went to work for Mike Thatcher at the Butte Pre release center CCCS Inc .and on December 21,1992 he was hired at Butte Silver Bow police department as a patrolman. In 1995 he was chosen to be a member of the Swat team and was an active member and sniper until 6/30/2009. Tim was promoted to
T Sargent on July 7th 1998. August 29, 2005 he was promoted to lieutenant in the patrol division. ( August 4th 2014 he was assigned to the detective division until his retirement in November ( 2016 after a lengthy illness. He received numerous awards for his compassion towards the citizens of Butte and for his relentless investigations that resulted in numerous arrests of felons.
In 1998 and 2002 he was awarded domestic officer of the year from safe space for his work ( and compassion of victims of domestic abuse. Tim was also the 1st officer on scene if another officer was calling for backup or needed assistance. He was relentless in the pursuit of being the best possible police officer he could be. After his retirement, he went to work part time for Bert Mooney airport as a police/firefighter when leaving for work he would always say "I'm off to Berts".
On October 7 th 1989 he married wife Gina (Taylor) Tracy. They raised 2 sons Joseph Andrew , and Timothy Nathaniel. Tim enjoyed fishing hunting, music, reading and being outdoors. He shared his passions with his family and friends. He was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan and attended a game at Heinz field. Anyone who came into contact with Tim witnessed his wit and shenanigans, he was proud of his Irish heritage. Tim was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Preceding him in death were his parents Geraldine and Ted Tracy. Brothers mike and Damian Tracy. Sons Joe and Nate Tracy, mother in law Maxine Taylor.
Sunriving spouse Gina, grandsons Layne and Lliam Anders, brothers Ted and Pat Tracy. Sister Kristy (Mike )Linerud. Sister in law Marianne Taylor (Don Apker).

Relatives and friends may call Sunday from 5:00PM to 7:00PM in St. Ann's church for visitations. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10:00AM in St. Ann's Church. Rite of Committal will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations are requested to the Butte Police Protective Association scholarship fund or suicide prevention and awareness programs. All lives are important.
