Theodore "Ted" Fischer

July 27, 1933 - January 26, 2023

Theodore "Ted" Fischer, 89, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023, in St. James Healthcare in Butte, MT. Ted was born July 27, 1933, at home near Killdeer, ND. He was one of 13 children born to Peter and Rose (Hummel) Fischer.

From a young age, Ted learned about hard work and helped his father on the farm and in the late 1950's headed to Montana and worked on ranches in the Wisdom area for several years. Ted would travel home each year to Dickinson, ND, to help family with their farms. Whether working on fencing, tending the ground, or teasing nieces or nephews, Ted could always be counted on to supporthis family. Later, Ted went to work for the Northern Pacific railroad and then for the Burlington Northern railroad retiring in 1998.

Ted met the love of his life, Eileen Gordon, in Butte and they were married July 5, 1980. They had 34 wonderful years until her passing on April 7, 2014. Ted was a gentle soul and was appreciative of visits from family and friends. He loved traveling to North Dakota and playing cards through the night. Pinochle wasn't just a game it was the only game – unless there was a cribbage board.

He is survived by his brothers: Bob Fischer of Butte, MT; Jim Fischer of Boise, ID; sister, Joan Meyer of Gladstone, ND, and their families. Also surviving are family members Mary Lou Cooney, James Lochrie, Patty Marquis, Nicole Church, Trista Thrasher, George Gordon, Satchel T. Gordon, Skye Dunn, George Dunn, Sarah Dunn, and numerous other grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Theresa (Dudley-Gordon) Fischer; parents: Peterand Rose Fischer; brothers: Joe, Tom, Lawrence, Harold, and Raymond Fischer; sisters: Mary Watkins, Dorothy Magelky, Frances Schollmeyer, and Tilly Medlock.

A special thank you to friend Jim Hendrickson and the staff at Big Sky Senior Living for making Ted's last years safe and comfortable.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends of Mr. Theodore "Ted" Fischer may call on Friday after 5:00 PM in the Duggan Dolan Mortuary Chapel.  Parish Vigil will be recited at 6:00 PM.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 am in St. Ann's Catholic Church.  Rite of Committal will follow in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
