It is with heartfelt sadness that we share the sudden passing of Sherrie Lee Theresa (Sagar) Carriger, age 63, on December 15, 2025.  Born to Esther and Joe Sagar, Sherrie was a tough and resilient daughter of Butte with an enormous heart.  She attended Emerson Elementary and graduated from Butte Central Catholic High School in 1981.

Sherrie and her former husband David Carriger share three children, Jonathan, Brooke and Taylor.  Sherrie loved her children more than anything and would go to the ends of the earth for them.  She and Jon shared their love of Montana, enjoying rafting and hunting trips.  Brooke's love of horses was nurtured by her Mom, and Taylor and Sherrie often baked together, especially during the holidays.

Some of the happiest times in Sherrie's youth were spent at her Grandparents' cabin in Elk Park.  This was a gathering place for family and friends, where she mastered horseshoes and explored the great outdoors with siblings and cousins.  Sherrie was a natural athlete.  She threw a wicked softball pitch and was fearless on the ski slopes.

Throughout the years, Sherrie lived in Butte, Buxton, Helena, and finally in Melrose near the Big Hole River.  Building and designing homes was something she thoroughly enjoyed; she had a knack for interior design, and there wasn't a home improvement project she couldn't handle.  She was also an excellent cook.  She loved adding her own flare to her Mom and Grandmother's favorite recipes.  Her chop suey was famous in the family as was her venison salami and kielbasa.

Sherrie loved living in Montana and lived life on her own terms.  Life wasn't always kind to her, but she made the best of every situation and she never gave up.  Sherrie was a loyal friend, and her smile lit up the room as did her laugh and wit.  She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, aunt, granddaughter, cousin, niece and friend.  She created beautiful memories with her family that will live on, but her true legacy is her children.

Sherrie is preceded in death by her parents; her maternal grandparents, Mary and Ciril Evatz; paternal grandparents, Joe and Helen Sagar; aunt Barbara Sears; uncle and aunt, Dr. James and Betty Dean; uncles, Jack Ritter and Jack O'Connell; and cousin, James Dean.

Sherrie is survived by her three children, Jonathan, Brooke and Taylor; brother, Joseph (Bonnie) Sagar; sisters Laurie (Neil) Sullivan, and Karrie Sagar.  She is further survived by aunts Cookie O'Connell, Mary Jane Ritter and Ann Lynn Cavanaugh.  Additionally, she is survived by her first cousins, Mary Beth Davis, Shane Sears, Debbie Tran, Cindy Ambrozic, Mark, Mike, and Steve Ritter and Melissa Swanson, Lyndsay Castiglia, Ian Cavanaugh and Brenna Cavanaugh.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

To her family, she will always be known as "Sherrie Babe".  Her beautiful spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.  Our world won't be the same without her.   Sherrie now flies with the butterflies in God's eternal garden.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
