Rosalie Mary (Foreman) Murphy passed away on May 4, 2026, in Butte, Montana.  Born on November 20, 1943, to Harry and Rose (Myerle) Foreman, Rosalie grew up on South Placer Street alongside her brother Ron. She attended St. Joseph's and Webster grade schools, graduated from Butte High School, and went on to earn her degree from Butte Business College—launching a lifelong career that would prove she could organize just about anything … and anyone.

Rosalie's professional life included roles as Assistant County Auditor and positions with the FBI, but her true calling came at Montana Tech, where she spent over 20 years becoming something far more than an administrative assistant. She was the "school mom," the steady hand, the quiet problem-solver, the thesis rescuer, and the person students and professors alike counted on. Titles never quite captured what she did—she simply made things better, wherever she was.

A devoted Catholic, Rosalie served as a Eucharistic Minister and lived her faith through action, kindness, and unwavering support of others. She filled her days with friendships and hobbies—golfing with the Bonnie Highlanders, gatherings with the Red Hats, community concerts, and countless creative pursuits including ceramics, pottery, knitting, crocheting, and sewing. If you were lucky enough to know her, you probably have something she made—and if you don't, you likely wished you did.

On February 1, 1969, Rosalie married James Murphy, beginning a partnership built on love, laughter, and a shared commitment to family. Together they raised their four sons—Scott, Tim, Art, and Ryan—collectively known as the "STAR boys"… or, depending on the day, "RATS." Rosalie and Jim ensured their boys were always busy, usually outdoors, and often slightly competitive. Whether it was golf at the Muni, skiing at Beef Trail, bowling at Star Lanes, fishing, camping, or family time at Blaine Lake, they showed up—again and again—creating a lifetime of memories.

Golf, in particular, became a family language. It followed Rosalie and Jim into their years as snowbirds in Sun City, Arizona, where they enjoyed sunshine, friendship, and, of course, more rounds of golf. When Jim was diagnosed with ALS, Rosalie stepped fully into the role she may have been preparing for her whole life—caregiver, advocate, and unwavering partner. Her devotion during that time spoke volumes about her strength and the depth of their love.

Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents; her infant brother, Kenneth; her beloved husband, Jim; and many cherished relatives. She is survived by her sons: Scott (Kristen) of Butte, Tim (Anna) of Lakewood, CO, Art (Bernadette) of Butte, and Ryan (Marlene) of Missoula; her brother Ron (Coleen) Foreman of Yakima, WA;, brother-in-law, Steve Murphy, her bonus son, Jim (Vickie) Murphy; eight grandchildren—Mackenna, Kalei, Seamus, Brittany, Corby, Riley, Kelcie, and Kade; and seven great-grandchildren—Mia, Banks, Zeke, Kierian, Scarlett, Aria, and her namesake, Rosalie.  She is also survived by countless cousins and nephews.

Rosalie lived a life defined not by what she achieved, but by how she made people feel—supported, cared for, and never alone. She gave generously of her time, her talents, and her heart, and she did it all without ever needing recognition… though she certainly deserved it.

In her memory, the family suggests donations to Our Lady of the Rockies or the Butte Food Bank/Empty Bowl campaign.

Friends may call on Thursday after 5:00 PM in the Duggan Dolan Mortuary Chapel.  Parish Vigil will be recited at 6:00 PM.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 am in St. Ann's Catholic Church.  The Rite of Committal will follow in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
