Robert Stephen Johns, "Bugsy", passed away peacefully on October 23rd, 2025 at his home in Butte, Montana.  He was born in Butte, Montana on November 6th, 1956 to Frank and Rita (Kelly) Johns. He attended Catholic schools throughout his childhood including St. Mary's, St. Patrick's, and North Central.  He graduated from Butte Central High School in 1976.

Bob entered the Marine Corps in 1977 and spent 6+ years proudly serving his country. He received several awards during this time including Rifle badge, Service Deployment ribbon, Certificate of Commendation, Good Conduct Medals, and multiple letters of appreciation from superiors. His service to this country was one of his greatest points of pride.  He remained a proud patriot of this country throughout his life.  Bob was HONORABLY discharged in 1984 and began his life-long career servicing our country within the U.S. Forest Service. He spent over 30 years as a proud member of the USFS, until he retired in October of 2017.

After returning from the service, Bob met and married Carol Costello Olds on April 11th of 1987. Together they raised her two sons, Brian Costello and Brandon Olds.  He considered them to be his own sons.  After many years together, they divorced.  In 2005 he met Lisa Pesanti and they spent the remainder of his years sharing outdoors, horses, the Montana lifestyle and all that life presented to them.

During childhood and high school years, he excelled in basketball, baseball and track, proving himself a talented athlete through high school and beyond. His athletics extended into the Marine Corps, continuing his athletic prowess with others from around the world. He was an avid sports fan who followed and loved the Chicago Bears and the New York Yankees.  He remained close with his classmates and childhood friends throughout his life. In the last years of his life, he joyfully attended a weekly, Thursday morning breakfast with his closest friends at Annie's Cafe.

Bob was a true "Montanan" and fully engaged the lifestyle that Montana Offers.  Some of his great passions included fishing, hunting, floating the Big Hole River, and the time spent in the forests he so lovingly cared for throughout his career.  He was a devout and spiritual man.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rita Johns, his first wife Carol Costello Olds, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife Lisa Pesanti; Stepsons Brian Costello and Brandon Olds.

Siblings, Betty Kerner, Kelly Johns, and Bill (Shelly) Johns. Nieces/Nephews: Kelly Kerner, Frankie Kerner; Kyle, Emmett, and Zoe Johns; Brittney (Sam) Sottosanti; as well as his dear cousin, Cathy Kelly, daughters Megan Kelly & Bridget Kelly Ryan.  Bob had many beloved relatives and friends, near and far, too many to mention.  However, he would want you all to know if he touched your lives he cared very deeply about you.
A celebration of his life will be held November 14th at the Depot, Butte Montana. Visitation will be 10-11am, and Celebration of Life will begin at 11am with reception to follow.
