On June 29, 2026, we lost an incredible person.  Robert (Bob) Joseph Armstrong, 85, passed away peacefully with his family by his side in Tucson, Arizona.

Bob was born in Butte, Montana on April 17, 1941, to Joseph and Catherine Armstrong.  He graduated from Boys Central High School and worked the summers for the BA&P Railroad before serving his country in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963.  Following his military service, he worked for the Anaconda Company as an electrician, then dedicated 38 years to the Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department, where he earned the respect and admiration of his fellow firefighters and the community he served missing his very first shift, due to the birth of his daughter Michelle.  Through his hard work, courage, and unwavering commitment to public safety, he rose through the ranks and retired as Fire Chief.  His leadership, integrity, and devotion to serving others left a legacy not only for those he led but has also extended to his entire family.

Bob had a passion for life and embraced every opportunity to make memories with those he loved.  He and his beloved wife, Nadine, especially enjoyed traveling together, Las Vegas holding a special place in their hearts as one of their favorite destinations.  He loved spending time on the golf course, golfing with friends and family.

After retirement, Bob continued giving back to the community by volunteering countless hours at the Butte Silver-Bow Public Archives, preserving the history of the community he truly loved.  He was Butte, through and through.  He also treasured spending time with his family, creating lasting memories that will be cherished for generations.

Perhaps one of Bob's greatest qualities was his unwavering devotion to his wife, Nadine.  He was an amazing caregiver, always placing her needs before his own with remarkable patience, compassion and selfless love.  Their marriage was a beautiful example of commitment, partnership, and enduring devotion.

Above all, Bob will be remembered for the joy he brought to others.  His quick wit, warm smile, and infectious sense of humor could brighten any room.  His kindness, generosity, and genuine interest in others left an impression that will never be forgotten.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nadine of 50 years and other extended family members.

Bob is survived by his children Carrie (Andy) Odney, Michelle (Jeff) Miller and Robert Armstrong, Jr and his grandchildren JoAnne and Kevin Davis, Amanda Bukema, Ashlee and Anthony Odney, Matthew, Kyle and Connor Miller, Kayla Lewis, and Hailee Armstrong (Jason Wrona).  He is also survived by his brother Jerry (Virginia) Armstrong, nephew Gene Wooster, great grandchildren and several cousins.

A Funeral Mass celebrating Bob's life will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church on July 14, 2026, at 11:00AM.  Visitation will start at 10:00AM. Family and friends are invited to gather in prayer and remembrance as they honor a man whose life was marked by faith, service, leadership, compassion, laughter, and unconditional love.
