Richard "Rick" Thomas Jany passed away peacefully July 27, 2026. He was born on March 11, 1955, in Butte, Montana to Lawrence "Larry" and Rose Jany.  The third born of 7 siblings, Rick spent most of his childhood hunting, fishing, and camping with his brothers and sisters in the mountains of Montana.  Twin Lakes was a family favorite camping spot and held a special place in Rick's heart.

Rick spent many years living in Bozeman after graduating from Montana State University working in the construction field and maintaining a large garden. In recent years, he divided his time between Butte and at his property in Crackerville where he tended the cattle and hayed with his brothers. Rick enjoyed working with animals and even named some of the cows!

Rick truly enjoyed having his family all together! His most joyous times that always brought the biggest smiles on his face were family holidays, reunions, and parties, especially at Josh and Marcie's place in Melrose. Though he did not have children of his own, Rick loved kids and spoiled his nieces and nephews.  He never missed an opportunity to spend time with them and attended their many school functions, athletic events, graduations, and weddings. Rick was very tenderhearted and had a special knack for rocking babies to sleep. Later in life, he became a full-time loving caregiver for his parents.  Rick excelled at caring for others with his kind and patient nature.

Rick was a devout and faithful Catholic and enjoyed attending mass and worshiping the Lord.  He was extremely generous, giving freely and never expecting anything in return.  Rick loved BIG in the most subtle ways, and was never afraid to tell you that he loved you. His priority in life was to make others smile and wanted everyone around him to be HAPPY.  We were blessed to have Rick and he enhanced our lives in so many ways. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

Rick is survived by his brother, Joseph Jany; brother, David (Jan) Jany; sister, Mary (Tim) O'Donnell; sister, Kathy (Phil) Blaskovich; sister, Laurie (Jim) Derby; and sister, Carol (Dr. Russ) Bloom. Nieces and nephews include: Dr. Amy (Justin) Moser; Josh (Marcie) Jany; Amber (Josh) Pulst; Cody O'Donnell; Dr. Teresa Blaskovich; John Blaskovich; Dr. Christie Blaskovich (Andrew Page); Weston (Danielle) Derby; Dr. Morgan Derby; Zeb Bloom; Jake (Chloe) Bloom; and Maddie (Sam) Hollinger. Great-nieces and great-nephews include: Kaleigh (Stephen) Resset; A.J. and Jessie Moser; Alyssa, Cade, and Cole Jany; Brooks Blaskovich; Stella Derby; Tripp Bloom; and great-great-nephew Jude Resset. He is also survived by his aunt, Margaret Stomsvik and numerous cousins (Petritz, Vavas, Kelly, and Allen families).

He was preceded in death by his parents Larry and Rose Jany; sister-in-law Rosemary Olson-Jany; grandparents: Joseph Jany; Helen and John Vavas; and Mary and Joseph Gorshe; and aunts and uncles: Roy Jany; Aleck and Delores Vavas; Freda and Roy Kelley; Frank Kelly; Harold Allen; Jerry Stomsvik; and Josephine and Archie Petritz.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will begin at noon (12:00 p.m.) Monday August 3 at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Interment of ashes will immediately follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Then following, the family invites you to join them in a celebration of Rick's life at St. Ann's Parish Hall.
