Peggy Deere Kristovich Markovich

October 29, 1943 – June 18, 2026

Our extraordinary and deeply loved mom, grandma, granny, sister, and friend, Peggy, left this world a little dimmer on June 18, 2026, in Butte, Montana. Surrounded by her devoted family, she passed away in the very log home where her life began—a home lovingly built by her parents from timber harvested in Maud S Canyon. Peggy lived boldly and unapologetically, always on her own terms. Fittingly, she departed this world the same way: wrapped in the love of her family, fiercely independent, and at peace in the place she called home.

Peggy's story began on October 29, 1943, when she was welcomed as the third child and only daughter of Jacob "Jiggs" and Virginia "Ginger" Kristovich. Growing up in Butte, Montana, she spent her childhood surrounded by family, friends, and the rugged beauty of the place she would always call home. She attended Hawthorne Elementary School and later graduated from Butte High School in 1962, carrying with her the resilience, warmth, and spirited independence that became hallmarks of her life.

On July 8, 1962, Peggy married Robert Richards. Together they built a home and welcomed their two cherished children, David in 1966 and Barbara Jo in 1968. Though Peggy and Bob later divorced, they remained friends and parented their children with love and support.

Peggy met the true love of her life, Bill Markovich Sr. ("Billy"), and they were married in Kona, Hawaii, on March 29, 1982, beginning a beautiful life together filled with adventure, laughter, unwavering love, and countless cherished memories. Peggy embraced the blending of their families and found her greatest joy in sharing life's special moments with David, Barbara, and, later, her beloved grandchildren, Meriah and Teal. Whether at home visiting or traveling, Peggy treasured every opportunity to create lasting memories with those she loved most.

One of Peggy's greatest gifts was her boundless capacity to love and cherish her family and friends. Her generosity knew no limits, and she gave herself freely to those she loved. Peggy possessed a remarkable sense of humor and a quick wit that brought joy to every gathering. She created countless memories filled with laughter, mischief, and happiness, leaving an enduring imprint on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Peggy found happiness in the simple things—a sunny day spent tending to her flower gardens, working in her yard, and working at her business. In the winter, she could often be found cozied up by the fireplace, catching up with cherished lifelong friends or heading off to her weekly bowling game. Few things brought her more joy than sharing her latest bowling scores with

David, her daily conversations with Barbara Jo, and visits with her grandchildren as well as making her famous sloppy joes, fried egg sandwiches and potato chip cookies for her family. These traditions, though simple, were among the moments she treasured most and will be remembered fondly by those who love her.

As time passed, Peggy faced the profound grief of losing those she held dear. Her heart was shattered by the passings of her beloved husband Billy, her parents Jiggs and Virginia Kristovich, her brother Jack Kristovich, and many cherished friends and family whom she truly loved.

Peggy leaves behind a legacy of fierce and unwavering love for her family. Her greatest joy in life was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she loved and cherished beyond measure.

She is survived by her son, David M. Richards (Aliesha); her daughter, Barbara Richards, whom she affectionately called "Barber"; her granddaughter, Meriah Taylor (Devon); and her grandson, Teal Taylor (Brooke). She is also survived by her two adored great-grandchildren, Turner Andrews and Navy Taylor, who brought immeasurable happiness to her later years and whom she loved with all her heart.

Peggy also leaves behind her precious fur baby, Miss Piss (Pricilla), a constant companion who held a special place in her heart. She is lovingly remembered by her brother, Frank Kristovich (Penny); her cousin, Judy Wing, who was more like a sister and shared an extraordinary lifelong bond with Peggy; cousins Gary, Billy, and Wally Wing; her sister-in-law, Darlene Kristovich; special friend Diane Merriam and many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love, generosity, humor, and friendship.

Peggy is deeply loved and missed every day by her children and grandchildren who cherish her memory. Though her absence brings profound sorrow, we are forever thankful for the years we shared, the memories we made, and the example she gave us. Her love lives in our hearts and remains with us every day.

Per Peggy's request, no formal services will be held. She will be laid to rest with her beloved Billy alongside her parents in the family plot at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In her memory, please call a friend, plant a flower, or hug your loved ones a little tighter today.

Whenever life got hard, Mom you were the one I turned to for your reassuring words: "You will be okay, Barbs." It is hard to imagine a world where I am okay without you here. But because of your guidance, your enduring strength, and the supportive family you left behind, I am trusting in your promise. I love you beyond measure. I will miss you every single day. Barber

Grandma, how do I say goodbye in such a small number of words when you were a big part of my world. You were my person, my other mom, and the best grandma a girl could ask for. Thank you for always being there for me. I will always cherish the adventures and memories our family had together. I will always remember holding your hand and the comfort it gave me. Love you to the moon and back. Xoxoxo Meriah

Grandma, I can't express how grateful I was to have someone like you in my life and how life feels like a darker place now that you're not here. You've taught me to be strong, loving, and respectful. I will miss your funny and loving spirit every day. You will be in my heart forever. XOXO your Beanie.

Granny, the day you decided you were ready to go home, you told me that you had lived a great life, that you had a family who loved you, and that, in the end, that was all that mattered.

I promise to continue living my life the way you did. Full of silly shenanigans, big laughs, a loving family, and plenty of ice cream

I told you that the day you left would be the saddest day, and no words have ever felt more true.

We love you, we miss you, and we will carry your love, laughter, and beautiful spirit with us always. XO Brooke
