Peggy Rose Shaffer Estabrook, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on the morning of October 27, 2025, at the age of 99.

Peggy was born on August 27, 1926, in Butte, Montana to Rose (Enstrom) and Wesley Shaffer in Butte. She lived a long and remarkable life defined by strength, grace, and an unwavering love for her family. She met the love of her life at a St. Patrick's Day dance and she married Hanford "Hank" Estabrook on February 22, 1947. Together they built a beautiful life filled with much laughter, while raising their four children: Rick, Sharon, Sally, and Roger.

Throughout her 99 years, Peggy loved cooking, dancing in Meaderville (especially to Big Band music), boating and fishing, and playing card games like pinochle, hearts, spades, and wizard. As a child, friends affectionately called her Pegola. Hank even named their boat "Pegola". She had fond memories of tumbling classes, sledding down Big Butte to her home on Hornet Street, and enjoying having many family picnics at the Columbia Gardens.

Peggy's favorite subjects in school were shorthand and bookkeeping. Those subjects helped to lead her to a proud and successful career as a legal secretary.  In those positions she worked for several different lawyers including Earl Genzberger and Lynch as well as Henningson, Purcell, and Genzberger. Peggy was honored to have been hired by the FBI in 1949 where she worked with WG Bannister. She was happy to retire when she was 63 years old.

Above all, Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, sister, cousin, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who found her greatest joy in her family. Her home was always open — a warm, welcoming place where holidays were celebrated with her wonderful cooking capabilities, with her enthusiasm, where stories were shared, and everyone felt welcome. Her wisdom, humor and gentle spirit and loving nature will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her children: son and daughter-in-law, Rick Estabrook (Tammy), Bigfork; daughter, Sally Estabrook Dwyer of Butte; son and daughter-in-law, Roger Estabrook (Beth) of Butte, and son-in-law, Vaughn Everly, She is also survived by her grandchildren: Hope Fisher (James), Stephanie Lynn (Daniel), David Dwyer (Erica), Kelsey Williams (Aric), Christopher Johnston, Shannon Renz (DJ), Zach Pickle (Amber), Lauren Sprunk (Cooper), Amanda Kuser; and by numerous great grandchildren: Francesca Fisher; Dawson and Sienna Lynn; Laker and Ellis Williams; Colter Johnston; Jayden Estabrook; Branlyn, Brayson, Brexdyn, Everley, and Wrenley Renz; Romee Sprunk; and Walker and Audrey Kuser, along with numerous extended family members whom she deeply loved.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Hank Estabrook; her parents, Rose and Wesley Shaffer; brother Robert Shaffer and wife, Dorothy; sister Joan Shaffer Anderson and her husband Harry; her daughter Sharon Estabrook Johnston, son-in-law Donald Dwyer; and grandsons Brendan Estabrook and Chase Estabrook.

Peggy's  legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched and the love she shared so freely.

The family will hold a memorial service on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 11:00 am at Duggan Dolan Mortuary, 1805 Meadowlark, Butte, MT 59701. Family may receive friends after 10AM.   Interment will follow in Mount Moriah Cemetery, 2415 South Montana Street, Butte.  A reception to continue celebrating Peggy's long life will follow.
