Patricia Ann Galahan James (Patsy) of Bull Run Gulch died Thursday from complications due to a stroke. Patsy Ann was born at home March 13th, 1939 in Butte to Walter Harrison Galahan and Eunice Irene Starin. She would reminisce of her grade school days when she became a traveling student. She attended the old Webster School on Aluminum Street. Her recollections of plaster falling from wall and ceilings, and windows breaking were quite vivid. The school was soon condemned because of subsidence caused by the nearby Travonia Mine, thus her journey began. Students were transferred to the old Butte High, located where Central High now stands. The school was not to be, it caught fire one evening and by morning had burned to the ground. Off she was on another leg in the journey, to the Lincoln School on West Broadway. Due to overcrowding, she was later transferred to the Washington School on East Granite Street. Next, it was south to the Monroe School. From the Monroe, it was to the newly opened Webster-Garfield, where she graduated with the class of 1953. Patsy excelled in academics and art with straight A's. She later attended Butte High and Butte Vo Tech. Patsy went to work at the Bow Theater (now the Motherlode) as an usher. Following, she worked at Woolworth's on Park Street, where the manager soon discovered her artistic talent and had her begin decorating the front windows and in-store displays. After her family was raised, she worked at Columbia Paint.

In June of 1954, she met Albert James, after he returned from the service, and the two were married in 1957. They were blessed with a son, Mark William, in 1958 while living in Dillion, where Al was a student at Western Montana College. A daughter, Michelle Irene, was born 9 years later in 1967.

In 1972 a cabin in the Pattingail Valley of Wise River was purchased. Patsy enjoyed family and friends there. Later years, she was home in Alder Creek of Wise River with her son and daughter in law.

Patsy was very proud of her Irish heritage. St. Patrick's Day was always a grand time. She had planned an Ireland trip in the near future.

Patsy was a member of the Centerville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Hiawatha Order of Pocahontas, TOPS, Red Hat Society, Front Street Market Tuesday Lunch Cronies, the Thursday Night Bowling Club and was a volunteer with the Retired Service Volunteer Program at Butte High School in their Journalism classes.

Patsy is remembered by her family for her complete devotion. Her culinary art will be missed, especially her divine pasties, Letter from Ome, and saffron bread passed down to her from her two cornish aunts on the James side. Always faithful, always true, she was the rock of the family. Whenever needed she was there to help. She will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and step father Matt Ferlic, her sister Shirley Johnson, brother Bill Galahan, brother-in-laws Jim Kent and Rich Johnson, nephews Jimmy Kent, Kelly Brian Randles-Sgrenci,Travis Neil and Jack Galahan.

She is survived by her husband Al, and their children Mark and Terri James of Butte and Michelle (Missy) and Patrick Mulhill of Bozeman, and grandchildren Austin James of Butte (Lansing, Michigan), Taylor James of Butte, Rebecca Mulhill of Bozeman (San Diego, CA), Logan Mulhill of Bozeman, and Keegan Mulhill of Bozeman, brothers and sisters Marlene Kent, Bonnie Johnson, Tanya and Pete Sgrenci, and Tom and Jamee Ferlic, brother in law Connie Johnson and sister in-law Debbie Galahan, nieces and nephews Debbie Arnold, Pattie Jean Lilly, Cindy Hicks, Conn Johnson, John Kent, Rich Johnson, Ron Johnson, Stacey Gilboy, Bill Galahan, Walt Galahan, Sean Galahan, LaTresha Garrison, Damion Sgrenci, Gina Sgrenci, Misti Beasley and Tara Williams, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews,cousins and special friends and "adopted children and grandchildren".

Family and friends are asked to visit after 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 15th. Celebration of Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. Interment of ashes will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Elks Club following the interment.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer Disease Research and the Empty Bowls and Lunch Backpack program at the Butte Food Bank in her name or a charity of your choice.
