Michael Edward "Mike" Maloney, longtime resident of Sheridan, MT, passed away September 30, 2025, at the age of 89 in Butte. Mike was the youngest of four children born to Sam and Evelyn Maloney. He grew up on the family ranch south of Alder.

In September 1955 he married Monica Maloney. For the first decade of marriage, they lived in several Montana communities following his work as a lineman. Along the way, they had three children: Mary, Marlene, and Mike. The family settled in Sheridan in the late 1960's. Mike and Monica started a cattle and hay hauling company, M & M Trucking, and did custom hay work for several years. They enjoyed over 60 years of married life together.

Mike liked to work and play hard. He became a mining "powder boy" in his late 70's and was driving a commercial truck until the age of 83. He hunted, camped, snowmobiled, and 4-wheeled in remote places; rode a Honda Gold Wing to Sturgis and New Orleans; and could be found driving the back roads in search of elk and other game until the last few months of his life. He survived falling off a 100-foot pole as a lineman, being struck by lightning in his own yard, and being "bucked" off his 4-wheeler and having to drive himself out for 10 miles with a shattered shoulder.

Mike had many, many loyal friends that stuck with him until the end. Special thanks to all of you who brought him meals and treats (especially desserts), had birthday parties for him, went for drives, told him a joke, raised your glass in a toast, and literally kept his home fire burning (Bart and Dave). Without you he would not have been able to continue to live at home until the last few months of his life.

Mike will be missed by his children and their spouses, Mike and Bonita Maloney of Arkansas and Mary and Gary Dalton of Seeley Lake; grandchildren, Kelsey and Craig; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Nico, Wells, and Wright; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Monica; his daughter, Marlene; his parents; and his three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at a later date.
