M. MAUREEN, also known as Maureen Jo Anne Powers Corbitt Gallegos, was born on September 8, 1934 to Avis (Prisk) Powers and Sonny (Maurice) Powers on Copper Street in Butte, Montana. She attended Washington and St. Mary's schools until 1948 and then graduated from Girl's Central High in 1952.

Maureen was preceded in death by her baby girl Corinne, daughter Madeline, grandson Christopher, grandson Alex and son-in-law Mike Boston. Survivors include her children William (Peggy) Corbitt, their daughter Megan and her son; Avis Boston, her daughters Aundi (Zach) Gilliland, their children and granddaughter, Sydne (Brayton) Erickson and their daughters; Madeline's son Brennan (Jana) Corbitt and their son; Jim Corbitt, his daughters Elizabeth and her daughters, Jaymie and Jeff and their sons, and Quinn (Tytan) Flink; grandson Gary (Samantha) Kelly and their children; Dave Corbitt.

Her main priority in life was her family. Beyond that she loved fighting for human rights and her Union brotherhood. As the sole provider for her family, Maureen continued to work multiple jobs and long hours. These included nurses aid, caterer, waitress and the chef for the Elks Club. Maureen was an incredible cook and she was once offered a job as a chef at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. She declined as she wanted to raise her children in Montana. Then in 1976 the Montana Power Company hired her as a janitors assistant at the Power plant in Colstrip, Montana. She worked hard and acquired an apprenticeship and became one of the first women to hold a position outside of secretarial work at the plant, paving the way for other women. She was proud to have served as Union Steward, officer, and charter member of the Local I.B.E.W. #1638 and the Southeastern Montana Trades and Labor Council as secretary and treasurer. Maureen retired in 1993 and moved back to her family home in Butte.

She took pride in caring for and restoring her family home. Her door was always open to anyone who might need a hot meal and a warm bed. She also loved to sing and had a classically beautiful voice. Her grandchildren loved to hear her lovely songs. She also cared for animals and loved to travel. She even got to go to Ireland to visit relatives in her ancestral homeland.

Maureen had a lifelong passion for Butte and family history. In 1991 she authored the book THIS HARDHAT WOMAN DON'T HAVE THE BLUES, a partial autobiography of her journey from the kitchen to a non traditional job in a power plant. She also wrote a book printed in May 2020 called HOW'S SHE GOIN' YANKEE? GRANDFATHER I'VE FINALLY FOUND YOU. It's a pictorial tribute to her family history and Butte, Montana.

Maureen was truly one of a kind, she marched to the beat of her own drum as they say. She was a true caretaker and she always fought for the underdog. She lived by Jesus' words in Matthew 25:40, And the King will answer them, "Truly, I say to you, as you did unto the least of these my brothers, you did unto me." She will be sorely missed by her friends and family.

Friends may call on Friday, November 08, 2024, after 10:00 am in the Duggan Dolan Mortuary Chapel.  Funeral Services will celebrated at 11:00 am.
