Matthew Charles Matich, 88

August 18, 1932 – July 7, 2021

On July 7, 2021, Matt made his way to heaven to have a long-waited reunion with his beloved wife, Mary Elizabeth (Betty). On August 18, 1932, Matt was born in St. Louis, MO to Charles and Katherine (Katie) Matich.

Matt attended elementary school at Holy Savior and graduated high school from Butte Central, both in Butte. In 1955, Matt met Betty, the love of his life, at the 156 Bar in East Butte. They married October 27, 1956, at the IC Church in Butte, MT and together raised two sons. Matt served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 – 1954 and worked at Safeway Foods as a meat cutter for 35 years. In addition, he was a member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion, and a member of St. Ann's Church for 60 years. In Matt's free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and telling stories.

Matt was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, parents, and parents-in-law: Dan and Elizabeth Riley. As well as brothers-in-law Dan and Ed Riley.

He is survived by sons and daughter-in-law Tim and Lori Matich and Dan Matich. Grandchildren: Michelle (Brandon) Bosch, Kayla (Ray) Peterson, Matt (Cassie) Matich, and Nick (BreAnna) Matich. Great Grandchildren: Brecklyn and Brayker Bosch, Dale Matich, Mila Matich, Julia (John) McIntosh, Alyssa Peterson, and Baby Girl Peterson. Great Great Grandchild: Baby Boy McIntosh. Sister: Rosie (Pat) Shearer. Niece: Heather Shearer. Sisters-in Law: Louise Riley and Peg (Phil) Winninghoff. Niece and Nephews: Jim Riley, Bart (Bretaigne) Riley, Lisa (Frank) Vouk, Jeff (Jenny) Riley, and Casey Riley. Special cousins: Jack and JoAnn McLeod. Special friend: Pat Holland. As well as many great nieces, nephews, and special friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations to be made to St. Ann's Parish or donor's choice.

Family and friends may gather for a visitation on Friday, July 9, 2021, at 6:00 PM at St. Ann's Parish. A mass celebration for Matt will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at 10:00 AM with a viewing starting at 9:00 AM at St. Ann's Parish. Following a graveside military service at Mountain View Cemetery, a reception will be held at the Knight's of Columbus (KC) in uptown Butte.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude toward the doctors and nurses at St. James Hospital, VA Hospital, and Community Hospital of Anaconda who took great care of Matt.
