Marlene Mary Harrington Dick, 88

July 27, 1934 – February 24, 2023

BUTTE – Marlene M. Dick, 88, a cherished member of the Butte community, died of natural causes at the home of her daughter Florence and son-in-law Jim Fisher surrounded by her family and bathed in love. Marlene Mary Harrington Dick was born in Butte, Montana, July 27, 1934, to Joseph D. Harrington Sr. and Florence Pohndorf Harrington. She attended St. John's grade school and graduated from Butte High School in 1952. Marlene married Arthur H. Dick on September 27, 1952, together they raised three daughters and five sons. In 1980, thirteen years after the birth of her eighth child, she earned her BA degree with high honors from Montana Tech. Their love story, work-ethic, commitment, and integrity played out daily with Marlene at the helm and the rest of us trying to keep up. It's a big job just getting by with a husband and eight kids; somehow, she made it look easy, a labor of love trademark. She was the keeper of our family's history, an enduring example of self-worth; and, for her children, our most constructive critic, and our greatest fan. She was more than good!

Marlene stayed connected, not in today's sense, she connected with people. Through countless civic, charitable, and social organizations, activities of her children, events of her extended family, and the lives of her dear friends, she connected. Opportunities provided through St. John's, the Sawmill, PTA, Hibernians, St. James Auxiliary, New York Life, ball games, track meets, reunions of all kinds, the Democratic Party, elections, Jolly Girls, holiday gatherings, Knitting Nook, picnics, camping trips, Mahjong club, cruises, celebrations, travel, phone calls and the kitchen table resulted in friendships that spanned generations and social settings.  If you knew Marlene in more than a passing way, you felt a connection and you have fond memories. Later in life, at 84, she served as Grand Marshal of Butte's annual St. Patrick's Day parade. She felt so blessed and so honored. Thank you, Butte!

Relatives and friends may call from 5:00PM, Thursday, at the Duggan-Dolan Chapel, 1805 Meadowlark Lane; Vigil services will be conducted at 6:00PM. Friday services include viewing from 10:00AM, followed by celebration of the Liturgy of the Resurrection at 11:00AM both at St. Patrick's church, 102 S. Washington St. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery followed by a 1:00PM reception at the Butte Country Club. Feel free to wear or bring something Marlene made for you. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions of the doner's choice are welcome. Marlene supported homeless causes.
