Margy Hirschy, born Margaret Ann O'Keefe, passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on July 19, 2025, in the comfort of her beloved ranch home nestled in Montana's breathtaking Big Hole Valley. True to her character and dedication to helping on the ranch, Margy spent her final day doing what she loved most—raking hay in the fields she cherished, just as she had done for decades.

Born on June 2, 1948, in Butte, Montana, Margy was raised in a warm and close-knit Irish Catholic family, attending the Immaculate Conception church every Sunday. She was the daughter of Raymond and Bernadine (Maddock) O'Keefe and the beloved sister of Michael and Raelene. Her early years were grounded in the faith and community of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and in her love of playing the piano. A proud graduate of Girls Central High School, Margy continued her education at Montana Tech, where she began to chart a path uniquely her own.

Over the course of 20 years, Margy built a meaningful career at Metals Bank in Butte. There, she formed enduring friendships and became known for her integrity, warmth, and commitment to her colleagues and community.

In November of 1975, she married Mike McLaughlin and together raised two beautiful children, Michael ("Mikey") and Maurie. Margy was a proud and devoted mother who poured her boundless love, strength and care into her children. Her deep commitment to family was at the heart of everything she did.

In September of 1986, Margy's life took another joyful turn when she married Big Hole Valley rancher, Richard ("Dick") Hirschy. Together they embarked on an extraordinary adventure, sharing a life full of laughter, love, hard work on the ranch and unforgettable memories. Margy was quickly embraced by the Big Hole community, where her warmth, generosity and class left a lasting impression. She hosted Christmas Mass in her formal room at the Hirschy Home Ranch, taught piano to the children in the valley and volunteered at the Jackson school, where she helped with reading and math. She was truly the "hostess with the mostest" - always ready with a cup of hot coffee, fresh pastry or warm meal for anyone that might stop by.

After the passing of her beloved husband Dick, Margy continued to find meaningful ways to give back. She took a part-time position at the Southwest Montana Community Health Center. She also provided unwavering love and support to her nephew Mark during his courageous battle with MS in Billings.

Margy's life was defined by quiet strength and a deep love for her family, friends and community. She touched countless lives through simple acts of kindness and an open heart. Whether you knew her for a moment or a lifetime, you were better for it.

She is survived by her son Michael McLaughlin, his wife Misty and granddaughter Sidney; sister Raelene (Rick) McLaughlin, niece Rainie McLaughlin; brother Mike (Ann) O'Keefe, nephew John, nieces Megan, Tricia and Katie O'Keefe. She is also survived by her stepchildren Heidi Hirschy and Steve (Kim) Hirschy, and grandchildren Richard, Dustin and Brandy Hirschy.

Funeral Mass will be held at the Immaculate Conception church in Butte, Montana on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Please also join us immediately following the service at The Finlen to share memories and celebrate Margy's beautiful life. Food and libations will be provided.
