Mr. Lee Elliot Masters passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019, surrounded by his family. Lee was born on February 10, 1933 in Rocker, Montana to John Sampson and Edna Annie (Fenton) Masters. Lee was the grandson of Will Masters who came to Butte in 1880, from Cornwall, England, to work in the Bluebird Mine.

Lee started school in Rocker, Montana, then moved to Butte in 1939. He attended Monroe Elementary School, then went on to Butte High School from where he graduated. Lee worked at Hub Clothing Company and the Rocker Timber Framing Plant. He entered the United States Army in 1954 and served in France, with SCARWAF (Special Category Army with Air Force), and was honorable discharged in 1956. Lee then went to work for the ACM (Anaconda Copper Mining Company) in the Leonard Mine working construction, as well as in the Berkeley Pit. Finally, Lee found his place at the Butte Post Office in 1959. He later retired in1988.

Lee was a member of multiple clubs. Some of these included the Skyline Sportsman and Branch 621 of the National Association of Letter Carriers, of which he was Past President, Butte Clerks Union, Butte Miners Union, the Operating Engineers Union, the Butte Saddle Club, the Sheriff's Posse, the Silver Bow Democratic Central Committee, Burrows Club, AARP (American Association of Retired Persons), and NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees). Lee was also passionate about being a member of the Montana Wildlife Association of Public Land and Water, the Montana Cornish Cousins, and the Mile High Federal Credit Union, of which he was also Past President. When he wasn't attending a club meeting, Lee loved hunting, fishing, camping, and four-wheeling with his family and friends

Lee is survived by his daughter, and best friend, Heidi (Masters) Hjelt; son-in-law, Dale Hjelt; grandkids, Dale Hjelt, Jr.and Shawnee Hjelt, and Doris Hogue. Lee was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and Ray, and his nephew Terry.
