Judith Joan Duke Harrington
Judy Harrington passed away peacefully Saturday, June 4th surrounded by her loving family at the Crest Nursing Home. A rosary and visitation will be held on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at St. Ann's church followed by a funeral liturgy on Friday at 1:00.
Judy was born on August 23, 1937, in Mitchell, South Dakota to Ross and Mayme Duke. She and her sister Joyce spent their childhood growing up in nearby Salem. Her father purchased a farm in 1951 and moved the family to Cut Bank, Montana when she was a freshman in high school. After graduating from Cut Bank High School in 1955, she entered the nursing program at Carroll College and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1958.
During her studies at Carroll College, she met the love of her life, Jim Harrington. After graduation, the two were married on June 27, 1959 and were dedicated to each other and their family for 53 years.
They moved to Butte in 1964, where they raised five children. In 1976, Judy returned to work as an RN at the Butte Park Royal caring for the elderly and making them comfortable in their time of need. She worked there until 1982, when she accepted a position at the Stress Center at St. James Hospital East. It was here she helped patients cope with the stress in their lives.
Judy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was always guided by her strong faith and love of god and her family. One of the highlights of her life was making a pilgrimage to Medjugorje, Bosnia in 1986. Caring for others was her mission in life, and many have benefited from her care and love. She will be missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ross and Mayme (Moore) Duke, sister Joyce (Duke) Workman, brother Daniel Duke, husband James Daniel Harrington, daughter Patricia Lynn, son Robert James Harrington.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Mary and Kevin Kissell of Butte, son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Sandy (Hodges) Harrington of Great Falls, son and daughter-in-law Terry and Darcy (Goles) Harrington of Butte, Grandchildren Sean, CJ, and Kelly Kissell of Butte, Heather, Shane, and Nathan Harrington of Butte, and Kylie and Ryan Harrington of Great Falls, Great Grandchildren Kendalyn, Tucker and Cruz Kissell of Butte, brother in law and sister in law Gerald and Madeline Harrington, and many more cousins, nieces and nephews.
Memorials are asked to be given to the American Diabetes Association or the donor's choice.
