Joe Harstead died on April 22, 2021 at home.  He was born September 1, 1929 to Helen and Joe Harstead.  His parents were divorced in the mid '30s and he, his brother, Pat, and sister, Ellen Rene, were raised by their mother.  Later they were joined and lived with Helen's mother, Ellen Downey, and Helen's brother, John Downey, to complete the family.

Joe attended St. Patrick's grade school, Boys Central High School, and served in the U.S. Navy.  Later he graduated from the Montana School of Mines, now Montana Tech, as a petroleum engineer.  He worked for Texaco Oil Company, the Atomic Energy Commission, and St. James Hospital.

In 1977 Joe started going with Zoe Hristou, a widow with three children:  Peter, Theo and Kathe.  By 1979 Pete and Theo were married, and when Kathe went to college, Zoe and Joe got married.  For the next 38 years they were almost inseparable, seldom would you see one without the other.  Zoe died in February 2017.

Joe is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Lew and Jessica Harstead and their three children, Jackson, Matthew, and Thomas, all of Boulder, Colorado; by nephews Tony (Robyn) and John (Tracy) Arntson and niece Joanie (Jeff) Agamenoni and their families; cousins Jack Semmens and Patsy Lorello and their families; Zoe's children Peter (Rhea) Hristou, Theo (Don) Davis, and Kathe Hristou and their families, and Zoe's sister Maria Hristou.

Deceased family members are his mother Helen Harstead, brother Pat (Donna) Harstead, sister Ellen Rene (Roger) Arntson, grandmother Ellen Downey, uncles John Downey and Tim (Minnie) Downey, aunt Madge (Eddie) Semmens, cousins Peggy and Bob Holland, Pauline Semmens, and Rich Lorello.  Also deceased is Joe's close friend Jim Manion (survived by Jim's wife Rose).
