John Antone Lorengo, passed away peacefully at his home, on December 14, 2019. John was born September 14, 1929, in Columbia Falls, MT, to Severino and Emma Lorengo.

At the age of 10, John went to work at the McQueen Dairy, in Elk Park, where Mr and Mrs. McKernan took him in and he became a member of their family. After leaving the ranch, he worked for Meadow Gold Dairy, until he joined the Navy.

John served with the U.S. Navy for 4 years, as a Boilermaker on the U.S.S. Henrico, during the Korean War. The greatest day of his service, was when he was called up on deck and his brother, Louie, was standing there. They served the rest of their duty together on the U.S.S. Henrico. For his service to our country, John received the National Defense Service Medal, the China Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal, with 5 stars.

Following his discharge, John returned to Butte, where he married the love of his life, Lois Garrison, on January 28, 1956.

John worked for the Anaconda Company as a Shovel Operator, and later as a Lead Man of the Cable Crew. When the Anaconda Company shut down, he went to work for Arco, at the Black Thunder site in Gillette, WY, retiring in 1986. He then went to work as a 304 Foreman for Montana Resources, retiring again in 1995. One of his fondest memories with Montana Resources, was when he went to Australia, to look at a new shovel for the company.

John was one of the most selfless men you could ever know. He would give you the shirt off his back, or would be there in a flash, for anyone who needed help with anything. He loved camping at Harrison Lake, and later at Canyon Ferry. He was a member of the Anaconda Company/Montana Resources retirees coffee club, that met once a month at the Hanging 5 Restaurant, which he looked forward too.

John was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Lois, in 2003; his precious daughter Kathy Lorengo-Sulton, in 1998; his parents; 3 brothers; and 2 sisters.

He is survived by his son, Dan (Terry) Lorengo of Butte; daughter, Cheryl (Joe) Kastelitz of Butte; grandchildren, Jennifer (Russ) Phillips of Butte, John (Brittany) Lorengo of Missoula, Jaime (Andrew) Mason of Dublin, CA, Kyle (Tricia) Kastelitz of Virginia Beach, VA, Alicia Kastelitz of Frisco, TX, Jennifer (Joshua) Juarez of Billings, Cheri Brown and Conor Boyle of Butte; great-grandchildren, Baylie, Sammi, and Ryann Phillips, Bleyz, Nicholas, and Xavana Lorengo, Emma Boswell, McKenzie and Hunter Mason, Nora Kastelitz, Jaci Juarez, and Noah Purcell; brother, Pete (Judy) Lorengo of Washington; sister, Helen Lanch of Butte; sister-in-law's Billie Lorengo of Dillion, Dorothy Johnston of Napa, CA, Mil (Paul) Critton of Vallejo, CA and Jeanne Garrison of Butte; his life-long best friend, Lee Wulf of Butte; and many nieces and nephews who he thought the world of.

In accordance with John's wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at 11:00 am, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. The family will receive friends, at the church, beginning at 10:00 am. Private interment will be held at Mount Moriah Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
