Joann Rapp passed away peacefully Christmas morning at the age of 86 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. We can only imagine the joy she had as she entered Heaven as she lived her whole life to get there. It was truly a blessed day as she was no longer suffering.

Joann was born in Butte, Montana on December 31, 1937 to John and Helen McCarthy. She graduated from Girls Central where she was part of the ski team and president of her Senior class. She went on to further her education at Carroll College earring a degree in nursing.

She married Kenneth Rapp on June 13, 1959. They started their married life in Butte where she worked at St. James Hospital as an RN which was followed by a short move to Helena. She continued working at St. Peter's Hospital until Ken received a job opportunity in Miles City in 1968. She chose to dedicate her time to raising her children along with her continued active role in the community. Joann spent many hours olunteering at Sacred Heart School and Sacred Heart Parish. In 1979 they made the move back to their home town of Butte. A place she loved and was excited to be back surrounded by the beautiful mountains once again. Once back in Butte she continued her devotion of the church by being an active member in Holy Spirit Parish and later St. Ann's Parish and volunteering in many facets of the church. She was a devout Catholic attending church daily.

Joann enjoyed playing bridge both in Miles City and Butte. She loved walking and went nearly every day. Later in life she took up golf with the help and instruction from her sons. It became a true passion. She joined several leagues and tournaments. She loved golfing with her sons and later on with her grandchildren. She loved to sew spending many late nights sitting at her sewing machine. She sewed many things but sewing blankets for friends and family was her favorite often donating many to charity. If you were a recipient you know just how fabulous they were. She also loved to bake and was known for some of the best cinnamon rolls around.

She was proud to be Irish and anyone who knew her knew just how much her Irish heritage meant to her. She loved celebrating St. Patrick's Day and sharing all things Irish throughout her years passing that love down to her her kids and grandkids. She later joined the Hibernians.

Joann was blessed with many friends. She was a loving mom and a amazing fun loving grandma spending so much time with them in all aspects of their lives whether it was golfing, cooking, sewing, running them to many of their activities or the many sleepovers at grandmas with milkshakes at midnight or just simply hanging out watching football.

Joann was preceded in death by her mom and dad; brother, Robert; and husband, Ken. She is survived by her children; Dave Rapp, Kathy Rotondi, Jerry Rapp, Colleen Kenneally (Mike), Mike Rapp (Delisa); and her grandchildren, Rachel Rotondi: Meghann, Eric, and Emilee Kenneally, and Annika and Katelyn Rapp.

Sadly when her memory started to fade she was no longer able to live at home. She moved to The Springs, which ended up being her home over the last ten years.

Funeral Mass for Joann will be celebrated in St. Ann's Catholic Church on Monday, February 10, 2025, at 11:00 am. If desired, memorials can be made to The Alzheimer's Association.
