With a final, gentle breath exhaled, James H. Britton left the world on July 14, 2020 as he lived, with grace, courage, and humility. His brilliant and beautiful mind succumbed to brain cancer after a grueling effort to beat the formidable foe. Jim was a scientist having graduated from St. Paul's School and Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and having attended graduate school at Indiana University. Jim later received his MBA from the University of Montana.

His incredible ability to retain information led him to become a JEOPARDY! champion in 2000. His career journey took him from genetic research in Maine to research and development of biological pesticides in Montana to business analysis at the Town Pump Corporation in Butte, Montana. It was in Butte where Jim met and married Margie Seccomb, a forever partner bound by an unwavering love. Together, they brought into the world the joy of their lives, Claire Britton, in 2001.

Born in New Rochelle, New York, on Jan. 2, 1963, Jim's formative years were spent in Great Falls, Montana where his adored mother, Loretta Britton, still resides as does his younger sister, Beth Britton. His older sister, Patricia Britton, lives in Seattle with her partner Stellman Keehnel. All survive Jim along with his wife, Margie, and daughter, Claire. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Britton.

"Every man's life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another." The words of Ernest Hemingway resonated with Jim. Those who knew and loved him know he is distinguished by courage, grace and the gentle way he made his mark on the world. We honor him in private for now until such time it is safe to gather. A memorial service will be held on a date to be announced.
