Henry William "Sonny" Philp passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022, at his daughter's home, surrounded by his loving family. Sonny was born in Butte, Montana on April 28, 1940 to Henry and Doris (Hipp) Philp  He attended Webster-Garfield Elementary School and Graduated from Butte High School.

As a young man, Sonny worked for Eddy's Bakery.  He completed his apprenticeship as a baker at Town Talk Bakery.  He was employed, by various bakeries, around Butte before becoming employed by the ACM (Anaconda Copper Mining Company).  He later went to work at Boulder state hospital for 2oo0 years before retiring.

On July 10, 1960, Sonny married the love of his life, Carole Stewart and have been together for 62 years. Foregoing a big Church wedding, the couple was married in a simple ceremony.  As Carole recalls, "It broke my parent's hearts, but saved their pocketbook". They were blessed with a lifetime of happiness and two wonderful children: their daughter, Laurie, and their son, Randy.

Sonny was a man always on the go. He was very hard working and took great pride in his land being well manicured at all times. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors. When he wasn't working on his land he was taking care of his horses and dogs, which he loved very much. You could say his love for his horses and dogs were contagious because his son Randy would grow to share the same interest. When he finally took time for himself he would be hunting or fishing. Of all the things he loved, he loved his family the most.  Showing it in his own ways like sneaking his granddaughter a few bucks from his coffee fund, or treating his daughter to lunch, always with the same instructions, "Don't tell Carole". Sonny defined the word selfless; his actions spoke more than any words. He was constantly helping a friend, checking on his daughter and grandchildren or bringing Carole to one of her appointments. He would make sure everyone around him was taken care of and he would never complain, except maybe when you would hear him say firmly "C'mon Carole, it's time to go!" after browsing in one store for 3 hours.

Sonny will be deeply missed, he was preceded in death by his parents: his mother-in-law, Frances Stewart, whom he loved as if she were his own; his brother John Philp; sister, Jacqueline Philp.  In addition to his loving wife and children, Sonny is survived by his grandchildren, Stephanie (Trista Kremer), Kelsey, and Jacob Cunningham; and his great-grandchildren Madilyn Moser, Avery Moser – who made sure to come over and give her goodbyes by telling him how much she loved him and gave him a big hug, Aydan Moser, Kaysen Cunningham, Lincoln Kremer, and Olivia Kremer – his newest great-grandchild whom he was blessed to meet just before his passing.  Sonny is also survived by his father-in-law, David Stewart; brother-in-law, David Stewart and Cheryl Nelissen, and numerous nieces and nephews. His best friend Karl Beckerleg who was always by his side.

Funeral Services will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 am in St. Ann's Church.  Placement of ashes will be held at a later date
