Helen Marie (Darragh) Maunder, a long-time resident of the Butte area, passed away September 20th, 2016 at Big Sky Assisted Living. Helen was born on January 27th, 1922 and raised in Walkerville, MT. She graduated from Butte Central High School. In 1944, she moved with her husband and the love of her life, Jack Maunder, to Portland, Oregon. She and Jack both worked for the military and supported the war effort from there. They moved a few years later to Stockton, California where their two children, Averil and Darryl, were born. Missing Montana, they moved back to Butte in 1960.
Helen's life centered on her family and she was a devoted wife and mother. She was an active member of the Parent Teacher Organization when her children were in grade school and never missed an opportunity to improve their education.
Helen was also a deeply spiritual person and religion played an integral part in her life. Not a single day went by that she didn't say a prayer for those she loved or for someone on her prayer chain. Her faith gave her a strong foundation to be the best person that she could be in all of her earthly roles and that was evident in everything that she did.
She was a great cook and hostess and enjoyed having friends over and entertaining. She always looked forward to visits from her family, going to their homes for family gatherings and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. She will be deeply missed and always and forever loved.
Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Averil and Mike Maloughney, son and daughter-in-law Darryl and Margaret Ann Maunder, grandchildren and their spouses Mike (Karen) Maloughney, Brian (Heather) Maloughney, Casey (Nate) Anderson, and great-grandchildren Jaile, Briley, and Kaidee Maloughney, Tayvin Collier and Kaiden Anderson.
Relatives and friends of Mrs. Helen M. Maunder may call after 10:00AM Wednesday in St. Patrick's Church for visitations. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00AM. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Bern and Ruth Dennehy Healthcare Scholarship fund or a charity of donor's choice.
