Helen (Spencer) Gavigan.   February 04, 1950 – January 13, 2023

She is not gone because her journey has just begun. After a hard-fought battle with cancer, Helen passed away with family by her side. Helen was born in Butte on February 4, 1950 to Bruce and Patricia (Curran) Spencer. Helen's mother passed away when she was 11 years old, but she persevered and graduated from Butte High and later pursued a nursing degree from Montana Tech. As a new LPN, she worked at the Boulder Hospital and SilverBow General. After several staff infections, she decided she could no longer work in the hospital and started working in the banking industry until her entrepreneurial spirit took over. She was always looking for new challenges and business opportunities. She owned and operated several businesses in Butte including the Courthouse concessions, and a party supply store in uptown Butte called Decorama. Later, Helen went back to her nursing roots and was an office manager for 15 years at Beta Factor from which she retired ten years ago.

Helen loved sports. She spent many years in a bowling league and had many travel adventures with the ladies. In her younger years she played volleyball and softball, and throughout her life, she loved to golf. Helen was always up for an adventure with family and friends. The best times were those spent at the condo at Big Sky, or singing and drinking around a campfire with the family at Georgetown and Delmoe lake.

Terry and Helen celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary this past summer. She loved to travel and was able to pack a lot into this year even though she was not feeling well. Helen and Terry traveled to Nashville, Arizona, Washington and even got in a camping trip with a river float this past summer. She loved spending time with her husband, son, daughter, grandkids and sisters.

The rest of us will carry on and raise a toast to Helen, including her husband Terry, daughter and son- in-law, Jenny and John O'Mara, son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Jamie Gavigan, her beloved grandkids, Cole, Addison, Amber, Paige and Madi (fiancé, Alec Cole), sister and brother in law, Patsy and Bing Cain, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, Debbie and Bob Hopewell and Judy and Mark Lamers. She also leaves behind her niece Linda, who was more like a sister, and her husband Stan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by Betty and Jim Hollow, Marlene and Jim Smith, Billie Spencer, mother, father and mother-in-law, Agnes Gavigan.

We will continue to think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched. For nothing loved is ever lost and she was loved so much.

Relatives and friends may call from 9:00am until 10:00am Saturday in the Duggan Dolan Chapel.  Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00am from the Mortuary Chapel.  Rite of Committal will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
