Guy (Pene) Ossello passed away at home minutes after making and enjoying breakfast and daily prayer with the love of his life. He had tenderly spoken with all six of his kids just hours before he left us.

Born on April 2, 1938, the oldest of Guy and Stella Ossello's two sons, Pene grew up in the watchful embrace of many relatives and friends in the vibrant Italian community of Meaderville. He learned lifelong lessons from his mom and dad, and remained fiercely loyal to them and his Italian heritage. To meet him you would think he arrived in the states from Italy just yesterday. He spoke confidently and frequently in Italian, typically using words ending in vowels that he just totally made up!

Pene was proud of the foundation and lifelong lessons learned from his Catholic education including Boys' Central and Gonzaga University. Pene and his school friends stayed in close touch throughout their lives. His greatest high school feat occurred when he and a friend jumped into the back of Madeline Mogus' car and introduced themselves. Let's just say Madeline was not impressed, asked them to leave, then didn't answer their many subsequent phone calls. Pene responded as any high schooler would. He asked Sister Rose Gertrude to intervene!  Sister called Madeline out of class, sang the praises of that boy from the car, and from there an amazing love story began.

Pene's most cherished education and entrepreneurial spirit began while working with his dad at their gas station in the early 50's. A mistaken delivery of their new commodity called a refrigerator, sent to the gas station instead of their family home, was instrumental in showing the opportunity of "making a sale". The refrigerator was sold – and that sale led to one of the largest and most respected furniture and appliances businesses in Montana. Pene was a marketing master. His unique promotions created memories that people still share. He treated his customers and employees like family, and from his business dealings we learned that a hand shake and a person's word were more important than a contract, that a handshake was good, but a hug was great. He challenged everyone he met to believe in themselves. He believed in the C and D students. Throughout the years, so many diverse successful people have told us, "Pene gave me my start."

Pene received numerous awards and served on varies boards far and wide.  If the mission benefited Butte, or a deserving cause – he was all in. His life partner Madeline (Ammie), was not always front and center in Pene's business or boards, but she was his constant advisor, partner and guiding light - truly the wind beneath his wings.

Career success was important to Pene, he strived to do well so he could do good, but his lasting legacy is his family. He started out as husband, evolved into dad, then most joyously became "Papa Pene".

Papa was a man before his time who was always there for his six children. At their Whitehall ranch his kids learned to ride horses and motorbikes, play without rules, and to just be kids. Most importantly, we learned what it meant to be family. As our family grew, so did Papa's heart and his involvement in our lives.  He had an incredible, indescribable relationship with each of his grandchildren and their spouses. Ammie and Papa are not just the kids' grandparents, they are their best friends. Papa shared his beautiful voice and memorable dance moves everywhere he went. He started the tradition of singing "Daddy's Little Girl" at special family events. He didn't always need a band. Papa was the band.

Papa was preceded in death by his mom and dad Guy and Stella Ossello, his in-laws Max and Josephine Mogus, and his brother-in-law Max Mogus. Guy is survived by his wife of 62 years Madeline Ossello, his brother and sister-in-law Jack and Kathy Ossello, brother-in-law Ray Mogus, kids Stella and John Burke, Steve Ossello, Lynnea Ossello, Dino and Sharon Ossello, Angie and Mike Delaney, Gina and Shawn Hoagland; Guy and Missy Ossello.  Grand and great grandchildren Bryce, Erika, Killian and AJ Burke; Elle and Gary Paasch; Brynn,Trevor and Lennan Lampe; Nick Ossello; Ryan, Tifani and Brooks Burke; Maddi and Andrew Abercrombie; Annie, Austin and Kora Carver; Mick and Laura Delaney; Gianna Ossello; Dustin Ossello; Jacey and Eric Dungey, Kate Ossello; Meggie Delaney; Guido Ossello; Hayden Hoagland, KC Ossello; Maxine and Julia Hoagland; numerous special nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends the Orizotti family.

Vigil will be held Sunday, November 20, 6:00 PM at Saint Ann's Church, 2100 Farragut Ave, with visitation starting at 5:00 PM. The Mass celebrating Papa Pene's life will be held at Saint Ann's Church, Monday November 21, at 11:00 am.

Papa never grew up and he never grew old. He took such good care of our mom and our Ammie.  We are forever grateful. He was a father figure, mentor and friend - a force of goodness to each person who was blessed to know and learn from him.  Our hearts are broken for those left behind, but we are so at peace knowing the life he lived.  Tu Tu Familia.  To be continued.  Until we meet again.
