Genevieve Ruie (DeRudder) Schwend also known as "Jim" was born March 11,1925 in Bridger Montana at home. Genevieve was the second oldest of nine children born to her Belgian parents Edward and Maria DeRudder.  She attended Round Butte Country School, one year at Fromberg High School, and graduated from Bridger High School in 1943. She married her high school sweetheart, Clifford Allen Schwend, on May 5,1945. They were blessed with three daughters, Claudia (Ross) Elliot, Carol (Jim) Shope, and Sherry Schwend (Gary O'Farrell).  Then came their eight grandchildren, Ty (Erica) Elliot, Jen (Jim) Talich, Becky (Chris) Newton, Alecia (James) Kozisek, Lucas (Traci) Fowler, Felicia (Dave) Denton, Melissa (Ryan) Cobb, and Kelly (Ashley) McGonigal. Her eight grandchildren were spoiled by her always getting a favorite meal and special treat baked just for them.  They adored their precious "Nana".

Nana as she was lovingly called enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren participate in all their activities.  This kept Nana and Bunka (Clifford) quite busy as there were 21 great grandchildren in all.

Mom was a wonderful cook, fine seamstress, and exceptional artist painting and crafting. She also decorated cakes for her grandchildren's weddings and many nieces and nephews as well as friends in the Billings community.  Mom was an active participant playing games and cards especially pinochle and hand and foot.

Genevieve was a 4-H Leader for 15 years, CCD teacher, square dancer and a longtime member of St . Michaels Circle at St. Pius X Catholic Church.  Genevieve and Clifford celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary before Clifford passed in 2008.  Mom continued to live in their family home for the next 14 years taking good care of her home, yard, flowers, and herself.  She moved to Big Sky Senior Living on May 24, 2022 in Butte Montana.

Mom's legacy lives on through her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with their involvement in community, church, and caring for their neighbors sharing good food with them.

Thanks so much to the St. James Healthcare nursing staff for all the good care Mom received after her hip surgery.  Mom passed away on January 27, 2023.

A Memorial Service will be held on February 9, 2023 at 11 am in St. Pius X Catholic Church in Billings Montana.  A luncheon and burial committal will follow.

Memorials can be made to St. Michaels Circle in care of St. Pius X Church, the Yellowstone County 4-H Council, or the charity of the donor's choice.
