Francis Daniel "Frank" Murphy, 84, died of natural causes Sunday, December 14th, 2025 in Butte, Montana.

Frank was born in Butte, Montana on June 24,1941, to  C. Francis and Theresa Murphy.   He attended St. Joseph grade school, Boys Central High School and Butte Business College.  He served in the Army National Guard and Reserve and was honorably discharged.

Frank started working at a young age as a newspaper boy. He worked the night shift at the Bus Depot and worked with a moving company through school.  He went to work for the Anaconda Co for about 5 years then started his 37 year career with the State Of Montana GVW /MCS Div. He started as a GVW patrolman, moving to Supervisor, Captain and retiring as Colonel.

Upon retirement he worked on approximately 50 houses with Habitat, was involved with assistance with his church, helped others with any projects they requested from building homes, working on autos, plumbing, electrical, yard work and the list can go on.   He enjoyed 4 wheeling with his coffee crew and camping trips with his Billings/Helena family.

When Fr. Wright was our pastor, he would bring in Priests from Africa and other areas.    Frank would make it a point to take each of them to Our Lady of the Rockies and West Yellowstone for them to enjoy.   Frank also enjoyed delivering communion to the nursing home and meeting so many residents there.

His greatest pleasure was his Christmas Tree.   He loved bringing joy to others, especially the children.  This tradition was carried on from his sister Mary Catherine.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law; John and Lucille Rettke; sisters, Mary Catherine and Angela Ann Murphy; sister-in law Patti Rettke;; brothers-in-law , Kenneth Lode and Jess Garfield; niece Kezia Decker; nephews, Brian Blaquiere and Sean Griffin; and granddaughter Alisson Cass.

He is survived by his loving wife and companion of 48 wonderful years, Judith Murphy; children, Barbara Cass, Lura (Scott) Nuthak, and Daniel (Alisa) Cass; brother, John (Cheryl) Murphy; sisters-in-law, Nicole Garfield and Linda Lode; and brother-in-law, David Rettke.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Timothy Cass, Sean (Alayna) Cass, Alex Hoffman Nuthak, Andrew and Jacob Cass, Scott and Blaise Nuthak, and Jaedyn Moldenado; great grandchildren Kayleigh, Kameron, Kaden Cass and Kaelan Shifty;  nieces and nephews, Erin (Nathan)Allen, Shannon (Justin) Vennes and Brian (Caitlin) Murphy, Susan (Will) Decker, Ben (Patty) Blaquiere, Jay and Kyle Lode, Kenda (Bob) Biegler, Sarah Anne Griffin, Tyrell and Catlin Rettke; great nieces and nephews, Evelyn, William and Jonathan Allen, Owen and Eva Vennes, Liam, Rylan and Maren Murphy.  Hoyt (Kylee) Decker, Sonora (Josh) Schukar, Easton (Dana) Decker, Weston, Koby and Keira Decker, Aaron (Nicole) Blaquiere, Tess (Dustin) Irgens, Amy Blaquiere, Walker, Keegan, Gunner and Porter Griffin, Emily, Jackson and Catalina Biegler; and Daniel, Molly, and Caleb Lode; great great nieces, nephews and cousins; and his special "adopted" daughter Sally Moffitt.

Friends may call on Friday, January 09, 2026, after 5:00 PM in the Duggan Dolan Mortuary Chapel.  Parish Vigil will be recited at 6:00 PM.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 11:00 am in St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
