Our hearts are broken as we say good-bye to our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, Florence "Flo" Mahoney. She died peacefully in her sleep with her children by her side on February 07, 2023, at her home in Butte, Montana.  Flo deeply loved four generations of her family. They, along with the many dogs she cared for over her 94 years of living, were her life.  Flo was a role model for living one's life with kindness, honesty, accountability, and compassion.   She was one strong, beautiful, and courageous woman.

Flo lived her entire life in Butte, Montana and graduated from Butte High School. Throughout school, and during summers, she worked part-time at Payless, in the main office and other departments.  After graduation, Flo worked in the office at Hennessey's Department Store, where she oversaw customer accounts and payroll.  It was during her employment at Hennessy's that she met her husband, Dan Mahoney.  They were married for 64 years, until Dan's death in 2013.

Flo was a whiz with numbers and loved working with them.  She worked as a part-time bookkeeper for various businesses in Butte when her children were growing up.  In addition, Flo volunteered for eight years helping the students and Nuns with a variety of activities at St. Ann's Grade School.  She was also a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, and a Brownie and Girl Scout leader.  After her children were raised, she worked full-time for the Butte School District, where at the age of 50, she learned how to use computers.  Flo's last job was at the Butte Vo Tech (Butte Vocational Technical School), where she managed the library, bookstore, and Federal financial aid programs.  She loved working with and helping all of the students, especially training students in the Job Training Program to gain experience by working in the bookstore.

Flo was an outdoor person, who loved nature.  She enjoyed driving the backroads of Montana with her husband, and later, her son.  Flo and her husband never missed their children's school activities or sporting events.  It didn't matter how far she and her husband had to travel.  They were going to be there to support and cheer on their children, and later their grandchildren.  Flo loved working on projects to beautify her home, gardening, cooking, traveling with her daughter, driving fast, and reading mysteries.  She was fun to be around because she was curious about the world, and took delight in discovering new things and exploring new places.  As Flo would say, "There's always something to look forward to." and "Enjoy your life.  It goes by so fast, you wonder where it went."

Flo was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine and Joe Zunick; her siblings, John, Joe, Steve, Mary, and Katie; and her husband, Dan.  She is survived by her son, Dan (Toni) Mahoney of Butte; daughter, Chris, of Seattle; grandchildren; Tara (Shane) Wilson, and Erica (Matt) Pritchard, both of Missoula; great-grandchildren, Hattie, Margot, and Emerson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Flo, and her family, would like to thank Jordan, and the nurses, at Senior Solutions for their support and care.  She would also like to thank Alison Wysong for many years of being a special friend, and Patsy Counts for being a wonderful friend since the day they met.

Private family burial will take place in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to the Butte Humane Society, or Albert's Angel Fund.
