Elsie Jeanne (McCarthy) Nugent, 95

November 18, 1929 – March 22, 2025

Our loving Mother, Nana, and Great-Nana, Elsie "Jeanne" Nugent passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025.  Jeanne was the first child born to Edward and Edna McCarthy on November 18, 1929, in Butte, Montana.  She shared her childhood with three sisters and a brother, whom she loved dearly.  Growing up, Jeanne attended local schools and graduated from Girls Butte Central High School.  She married Robert "Nuge" Nugent on November 4, 1950, and they lived together for fifty years before his passing.  They were blessed with ten children consisting of three girls and seven boys.

Her children were the light of her life and she lived each day to love and care for them.  She spent many of her days making her house a home and watching and caring for her children and grandchildren.  She especially took great pride in caring for her youngest son, Scotty.  After her own children were grown, she was employed through the State of Montana Liquor Division, a job she thoroughly enjoyed.  Jeanne had an infectious smile and was adored by everyone who knew her.  Some of her greatest pleasures in life were spending time with her family, sitting on her back patio smoking a cigarette, sipping on a cup of coffee, playing scrabble, and working on puzzles.  She loved making pasties for every family gathering and special occasion as well as traveling with her husband for stock car racing.

Jeanne was greeted in heaven by her parents, sisters, husband, and six of her children that include Jacye, Tommy, Timmy, Dale, Patrick, and Scotty.  She is survived by four children, Danny, Jill (Don), Jan (Joe), and Jeff (Marcy), grandchildren, Mandy, Rob, Kim, Corey, Carey, Carlie, Cheryl, Mark, Amy, Joey, and Jaelyn, eighteen great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, and brother, Teddy McCarthy.

Nana collected many angels during her time here on Earth and now she is our angel watching us from above.  You were deeply loved and will be deeply missed.  You will forever be in our hearts.  Until we meet again…

Visitation will be held from 5-6 p.m. on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Duggan Dolan Mortuary.  Vigil services will follow at 6 p.m.  Visitation will resume from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at St. Ann's Catholic Church.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. followed by the Rite of Committal at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Memorials and donations may be made to the Butte Sheltered Workshop or to a charity of the donor's choice.
