ELIZABETH "DORENE" SHAUL, 89

Elizabeth "Dorene" Shaul passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, with her husband, John, by her side.

She was born on July 20, 1933, the fourth child of Harold "Tim" Harrington and Josephine "Fena" Mihelich.  She grew up in East Butte at 120 Cherry Street and attended Harrison Grade School. She graduated from Girls' Central High School and got her first job at Currie Buick.  She went on to spend the next 27 years working at Security Bank and ended her career at the Butte Silver-Bow Treasurer's Office, retiring at age 75.

She married John Shaul on May 20, 1967, and would have celebrated her 56 ^th anniversary this year.

Faith and family were the focus of her life.  Like her mother and sisters before her, she prayed the rosary daily and worshipped at St. Ann's Catholic Church for over 60 years.  She never forgot a family birthday and always gave you a brand new, crisp $5, $10, or $20 dollar bill, depending on your age.  For over 40 years she and John hosted the Christmas Eve celebration at their home with sometimes four generations in attendance.  You were always greeted with "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," and the evening always ended with a resounding rendition of the "Twelve Days of Christmas."  She was a lifetime member of the Butte Women's Bowling Association, making her mark at the Winter Garden Lanes and Marty's Bowling Alley.

When she and John built their cabin a few miles outside of Wise River in 1989, she quickly learned how to ride a snowmobile and enjoyed many ATV rides in the Big Hole Valley. She was known to hike with John into many mountain lakes.  She was an avid sports fan, and one of her favorite moments was watching Notre Dame play in their home stadium and seeing the "Touchdown Jesus" for the first time.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tim & Fena; her in-laws Jesse & Clarence Shaul; her sisters and brother-in-law: Marie Hanley, Erma & Ed Markovich, and Lois Martin; her brother and sister-in-law Teddy & Mick Harrington; and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Margaret & Al Emett.

She is survived by her husband, John; her brother and sister-in-law Bob & Mary Jo Harrington of Albany, OR; her brother-in-law Tom Martin of Spokane, WA; and her stepchildren Rick & Charlene Shaul of Elliston, MT; Al & Diane Shaul of Meridian, ID; and Leianne Hintz of Meridian, ID.

She is also survived by three generations of Nieces and Nephews.

The family would like to thank Debbie, Stacy, Sabina, Trina, and Josh of Highlands Hospice for their loving care and support of John and Dorene.  Thank you Sue Walsh for faithfully coming to give her communion, which was very important to her.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m.  She has been cremated and will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery immediately following the services.  Memorials may be made to Highlands Hospice, 3703 Harrison Ave., Ste.
