Edward J. Mazza, 94

Edward J. (Eddie) Mazza of Anaconda, Montana died Friday, February 26, 2016 in Butte at St. James Hospital. Eddie was born in Philipsburg, Montana on August 15, 1921 to Edith (Aprato) and James Mazza. He attended school in Philipsburg and graduated from Granite County High School in May of 1939. Eddie played the clarinet in "The Granite Melodians", a local dance band with his sister Gemma and three others.
Eddie graduated from Butte Business College in 1942. He worked for a local car dealer ship in Butte before serving his country during WW II in the Aleutian Islands Campaign. Eddie was honorably discharged from the US Army in November of 1945.
After his service, Eddie worked for a mining company in Philipsburg for a short period of time. He then began his bookkeeping/accounting career with car dealerships in Butte. On August 20, 1950 Eddie married Rose Geneva Parko in Butte. A short time later Eddie and Rose moved to Anaconda where Eddie worked for a local car dealership until he retired. Eddie and Rose enjoyed 61 years of marriage.
Eddie was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. He had an amazing ability to find excellent locations to pursue these passions. Both Eddie and his wife Rose enjoyed playing bridge, as partners, for many years. Eddie was also especially fond of music from the 1930's through the 1960's era.
Eddie embraced his Italian heritage and had countless stories of family, friends and wonderful Italian food. He enjoyed Italian dinners with his good friends, the Giono family, both in Butte and Whitehall.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters' Mary and Gemma and beloved wife Rose. He is survived by special cousins Patty Busch Dahl, Tom Mazza, Calvin Mazza, Ralene Mazza (Canty), Jim Mazza and their families in the USA. He is also survived by extended family in Northern Italy.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. in Duggan Dolan Mortuary, Friday, March 4, 2016 with Deacon Bernie McCarthy officiating. Pallbearers are Tom Mazza, Don Dahl, Bill Giono, Rob Giono, Topper Giono and Greg Giono. Honorary pallbearer is Brian Dahl. Burial will follow at Mount Mariah Cemetery.
