It is with profound sadness that the family Edward "Butch" Francis Harrington announces his passing on September 21, 2025, at the age of 66. Butch was a proud Marine Corps veteran, a dedicated police officer and a loving father.

Born in Butte, MT on May 7, 1959, to Edward and Patsy Harrington. He was dubbed the nickname Butch by his maternal grandfather shortly after birth and it stuck for the rest of his life. He attended Greeley Elementary, South Central and was a member of the Butte Central Class of 1977.

He met the love of his life, Dori J. Richards in 1978, and they were married on February 14, 1981. They welcomed son Bryan in 1982 and daughter Heather in 1988.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp at the age of 28. He served his country honorably from 1988 to 1992, achieving the rank of Corporal. His military services, including numerous medals and his deployment to Kuwait during Desert Storm, shaped his character and fortified his commitment to protecting others.

After his distinguished military career. Butch continued his life of service by joining the Butte Silver- Bow County police department in 1994. He served with integrity and compassion, rising to the rank of Lieutenant. He was well respected by his colleagues and the community he protected, known for his quick wit, compassion and bravery. Butch earned Police Officer of the Year in 2000 for his quick reaction to the jail fire, where he rescued thirty prisoners, only one of many awards he earned throughout his 20+ years of service. Butch retired from the force and continued to work for the county, spending 8 years in the Parking Commission before finally retiring in 2023.

While his professional service was a cornerstone of his identity, nothing was more important to Butch than his family and friends. He was a devoted father and a proud grandfather, he was a constant source of strength, support and always their biggest fan. He taught the kids selflessness, calmness under pressure and the importance of a sense of humor, always leading by example. He will be remembered for his countless hours of playing on the trampoline, cheering on the sidelines, and the many trips to Pizza Ranch.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dori, of 44 years; his children Bryan Harrington and Heather Sholey; grandchildren Leo Harrington, Austyn, and Huck Sholey; brother Sean (Debi) Harrington; Sisters in-laws Teri Kinman, Michele (Lance) Hicks, and Jodi (Frank) Toews; Brothers in laws Paul Richards and Jeff (Kim) Richards; Nephews Devin (Jennifer), Damon (Satie), and Nolan Harrington. Rick (Tina) and Kurt (Stacy) Johnston. Aiden, JT (Nora), Levi (Andrea) and Zach Richards; Nieces Sarah Mulcahy, Angela Lyons, Keri Toews, Alyssa (Arik) Foxx, Jessica Richards, Tracy Kendall, Michele (Olin) Erickson, Sara (Nate) Lester, Claire and Anna Richards; Numerous Aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces, nephews and the BC class of 1977.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sister Teri Harrington and his parents in laws Ed and Joan Richards.

Butch was an avid sports fan. He loved watching his Boston Red Socks, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Green Bay Packers, Boston Bruins, Duke and the Celtics. The family asks that attendees dress in their favorite team apparel to honor Butch's memory.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all the staff at Valle Vista and Central Montana Medical Center in Lewistown for their amazing care and compassion towards Butch during the last four months of his life.

A memorial service will be held at Duggan-Dolan Funeral home on October 1, 2025. Visitation from 10:00-11:00 with services at 11:00 AM with military and police honors. A celebration of life at the Knights of Columbus following services. Donations in Butch's honor can be made to Toys for Tots or Shop with a Cop through Butte Police Protective Association. His legacy of courage and love will be cherished by his family and colleagues
