Donna Rose (Carbaugh) Royse, 85, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at St. James Hospital. She was born July 7, 1936 in Woodburn, Oregon to Cal and Agnes Carbaugh. Donna was the last surviving of 7 children born in her family.

Donna met Bud Royse while they were both employed at Woolworth's. Donna worked at the lunch counter and Bud worked in the stockroom. Every time Bud would take stock out to put on the shelves, he would make sure to pass by Donna, she would smile and wink at him, and that's all it took for him to be hooked! Everyone knows Donna had a smile that would light up a room. They were married May 19, 1956 in St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Salem, Oregon. They just celebrated 65 years of marriage. Bud and Donna were blessed with 4 children: Judie, Nancy, Doug and Dan.

In 1971, the family moved to Butte, Montana to open the Arctic Circle Restaurant. Donna worked endlessly to make their new business successful. She put her heart and soul into the "Arctic". Donna had a work ethic that is unmatched to this day. She worked morning, noon and night to make sure everything was done, and was done properly! Donna worked until 2008 when she and Bud retired and sold the business, now known as Royse's Hamburgers, to their son Dan and his wife Tracy. Donna missed the customers and many friends she made while working. She was always the first to volunteer to work on special days, especially the 4 ^th of July when she could see her customer friends again.

Donna and Bud made many friends in the Arctic Circle family and would travel together for business and leisure. They also would travel to Arizona every year to escape the Montana winters. They would pack up their motorhome and head south after the first of the year to find the warmth and sunshine. Eventually, they purchased a home in Casa Grande, Arizona where they made new friends and many cherished memories.

In retirement, Donna joined the Gal-Us-Frame Gals Red Hat Society and made new friendships. She adored her friend circle of Bev, Colleen, Jodel, Karen and Nancie. They were always getting together to celebrate a special occasion or go golfing. Donna loved the times with her friends and the cherished memories they made together.

Donna is survived by her loving, devoted husband Bud; daughter Judie VanKooiman of Boston, MA; daughter Nancy Duncan; son Doug Royse and Dorrie Sestrich; daughter-in-law Tracy Royse; grandchildren Kevin Duncan and Holly Martell, Kayla Royse, Tiffany Mayson, Markus Royse and Nacole Sestrich; great-grandchildren Carson & Caedan Lacey and Jaxon & Stana Duncan, all of Butte; sister-in-law Carolyn Stinette of Bend, Oregon; brother-in-law George Bauer of Eugene, Oregon. She is also survived by many nephews, nieces and countless friends.

Donna was preceded in death by her son, Dan, sons-in-law Doug Duncan and Kenneth VanKooiman and brother-in-law Jimmy Stinette.

We would like to extend a very special thank you to St. James Hospital for the wonderful care given to Donna. The Doctors, Nurses, CNAs, and hospitality staff were all very kind and compassionate to her and our entire family.

Donna was a beautiful lady both inside and out. She was a loving wife, a devoted Mom, a cherished mother-in-law and an adored Grammie. We will honor your legacy and miss you everyday!

Funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, August 6 ^th at 11:00 am at St. John's Catholic Church. The family will begin receiving relatives and friends after 9:30 am. A private family burial will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or Shriners Hospital.
