Obituary

David Glenn Weeks September 7, 1951 – October 15, 2026

David Glenn Weeks, affectionately known as Dave and “the Buddy Man,” passed away peacefully at his home in Anaconda on October 15, 2026, at the age of 75. His cousin John Mike Downey and caregiver Doreen Seymour were by his side.

Dave was born in Butte on September 7, 1951, to Bernice Weeks. He grew up with his mother and grandparents, Glenn and Martha Myers, surrounded by a large and loving family. The Myers family included twelve children, and throughout Dave’s life, his aunts, uncles, and many cousins loved and supported him, especially after his mother’s death. His aunts Kay Brunell and Gert Downey provided particular love and care.

Dave loved people. He was friendly to everyone, greeting them with “Buddies Man,” and was happiest when there was someone to talk to. For many years he enjoyed working at the Butte Sheltered Workshop, where he had many friends, and looked forward to the monthly dances organized by the Butte SPARKS group.

In 1995, Dave moved from a group home in Butte into the home of his cousin Tom Downey and Tom’s wife, Wendy. He brought new energy and plenty of laughter to a household already busy with four children: Levi, Sarah, Anne, and Beth. He rode horses, attended the kids’ sporting events both in and out of town, and enjoyed every opportunity to socialize. The more time he spent living in the Downey home, the more he became part of the family and was thought of as somewhat-of-a-sibling to the kids.

With his youthful spirit and way of looking at the world, he inspired those around him to take joy in the little things in life. Dave loved drinking “Coffee all day, man!”, watching movies, (especially The Lion King and Dumb and Dumber), playing air-guitar to the Michael Jackson song Beat It, flipping through catalogs, and he was always proud to tell everyone he talked to that he had shaved his face that day.

Dave was happiest surrounded by people and activity. As Levi, Sarah, Anne, & Beth were growing up there were always events to go to or things to do at home that excited him. But as the four children graduated, moved out, and got married, Dave started to miss the excitement of constant social activities, and asked to move to a group home where he could enjoy daily companionship. He settled into Sharon Court Group Home in Anaconda and became part of the AWARE program, attending its Day Program. It was a good fit for Dave. He enjoyed living there, and the staff treated him as family.

During the last months of his life, as his health declined, Dave continued to receive excellent care in the home he knew and loved. His family is deeply grateful to the staff and caregivers who cared for him and made his life there a happy one.

Dave left an impression when you met him, and he left the world a better place when you knew him. He will be greatly missed.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, January 16th, 2027 at 11 am at St Patrick's Church in Butte.
