Remembering Daniel Bernard Harrington – (Bernie), Beloved Anatomy Professor, Husband, Father and Entrepreneur

June 16, 1939 – November 10, 2021

Dr. Daniel Bernard Harrington (Bernie), longtime professor and entrepreneur, passed away of natural causes on November 10 ^th 2021 at age 82, while visiting his hometown of Butte, MT with his beloved wife, Barbara. They had retired to Port St. Lucie, FL in 2018.

Dr. Harrington is survived by Barbara, his devoted wife of 30 years; two daughters shared with his first wife Judie O'Connell - Margaret (Dustin) Harrington of Cannon Beach, OR and Shannon (Terry) Harrington of Staunton VA; three step children - Michael, Barbara and Cynthia McMullen; and two grandchildren - Dolan Harrington of Staunton, VA, and Nicole McMullen of Jensen Beach, FL.

He was preceded in death by his beloved sisters, Lea Ann (Harrington) McGuirk and Patty (Harrington) Wilhelm, and his parents, Pat Harrington and Dorothy (Dolan) Harrington.

'Bernie' grew up in Butte where he served as an altar boy, attended Butte Central High and excelled at baseball.

After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Harrington pursued higher education, earning a B.S. in Chemistry and Zoology from the University of Portland.

A prolific author of 48 research paper publications, Dr. Harrington earned a Ph.D. in Anatomy from the Upstate Medical Center, State University of NY in Syracuse, where he conducted groundbreaking electrophysiology research under the guidance of his esteemed Ph.D. advisor, Dr. Robert Becker.

Years of brilliant professorship followed at New York University and Marquette University.

Dr. Harrington served as Chairman of Anatomy at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine, Oregon Health Sciences University, American University of the Caribbean, and as a visiting professor at Thomas Jefferson Medical University in Philadelphia, PA.

He founded Interactive Technology Group, Inc. a distance learning development company located in Butte, MT and established a medical school, College of Medicine & Health Sciences, St. Lucia, West Indies, with offices in Butte, MT jointly with Dr. Thomas Connors, Ph.D. of Helena, MT.

He was a gifted singer and guitarist and taught his daughters how to play and sing, always harmonizing with his beautiful tenor voice.

Dr. Harrington was loved and admired by students and colleagues over the course of his life and career. He will be remembered for his kindness and good humor, and lives on forever in the hearts of his family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held in Butte, MT on what would have been his 83 ^rd birthday: Thursday June 16 ^th at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church, at 11:00 AM -  329 W. Mercury St, Butte, MT 59701. A gathering to celebrate his life will follow the service.
