With heavy hearts, we are sad to announce that Dallas passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at St James Healthcare in Butte surrounded by his wife & daughter.

Dallas was born in Ord, Nebraska on April 2, 1945, to George Wayne and Myrtle Blanche (Hunt) Benson.  He was the last born out of 5 children.

Dallas attended Country School and was taught by his sister Geneva and then went to Lincoln Northwest High School in Lincoln Nebraska, class of 1963.  Where he was part of "The Dirty Dozen" that had some of his best friends.  He then went and graduated from Nebraska Vo-Tech School in Milford, Nebraska.

Dallas and his first wife had a son Lee Montgomery and a daughter Tammi.  She passed away in 1974.  Dallas then married the love of his life Pauline (Branting) on January 6, 1977, and had a daughter Roseann.  Pauline had four children from a previous marriage (Bradley, Kimberly, Tammie & Peggy).

After graduation he planned to go into the military but due to a car wreck and a broken ankle, he was not able to go. He worked for Volack Construction as a heavy equipment operator for 2 years, City of Lincoln as a heavy equipment operator for 5 years, Standard Meat Co as a truck driver for 2 years, Christensen Cattle Co for 5 years, Burt County Co-op as a station manager for 10 years and Agri Pro Seed Co for 1 year.

Dallas & Pauline moved their family to Butte, Montana in the summer of 1985.  He started working for Lisac's Tire and was there for 15 years.  He loved working with tires, but his body had different ideas.  Dallas then went on to work at the Legion Oasis as a grounds keeper and then worked for Butte GM as a parts driver.  He had some other odd jobs later in life to keep his days a little busy.

His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were his shining light.  He loved watching them grow, play sports, get married and have kids.  He was so proud of each and every one of them.

He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved camping, hunting, and fishing.  Every weekend we would be found in the mountains by Radersburg at a family friends' cabin.  We enjoyed so many weekends there. Where one of his daughters learned that you cannot bring your curling iron and blow dryer because the extension cord will not reach and that there is not always a door on the outhouse and people might drive by and wave.  Dallas coached major girls' softball for Longfellow Little League for a few years and even coached the girls All-Star Team. He was a tough coach, but all the girls respected him after he sat out his own daughter for a couple of practices!  He loved to watch Nascar and Dale Earnhardt was by far his favorite driver, once he passed, he started to cheer for his son.  He never missed a race, not even when he was in the hospital.  Until the time of her death, it was important for Dallas to call and check on his older little sister Geneva, every Sunday.  Dallas also loved to bowl.  He and family would be at the bowling alley for league every weekend.  He also loved to play games on the computer, even though most of the time he yelled at it.  Dallas loved playing cards and usually only lost to his wife.  He loved playing horseshoes with the Richard's every 4th of July after the parade. Once he figured out the computer, he loved to sit in the computer room, watch his races or news and play his games while eating his Chex mix.  Dallas loved being able to watch his grandkids play the sport(s) that they loved and was one of their biggest fans.  If he wasn't at their games, he could be found watching them on the TV or listening to it on the radio.  One of his biggest accomplishments was quitting smoking, which would have been 26 years in Feb.

In 2018, Dallas was diagnosed with Lung Cancer. He faced it head on and did everything in his power to get better and back to doing his everyday things.  After surgery, chemo and some radiation he received news that he was in remission.  Everyone was so excited. A couple years later he was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, again he faced that head on.  Dallas broke his femur in Dec 2023.  He never lost his sense of humor and ability to laugh and make everyone else laugh too.  When asked how he was doing, he would reply, "Fair to partly cloudy!"

Dallas was an amazing husband, son, father, uncle, and friend.  The void that Dallas left, will be felt by anyone who knew him.  He was extremely loved and will be deeply missed.

Dallas was preceded in death by his parents, George & Myrtle; numerous Aunts & Uncles; his siblings, Rosena Della, Norris Wayne, Robert Keith, his favorite sister Geneva Wilma; son, Bradley Swanson; nephew, Jack Petska; favorite dog daughter, son, and grandpup, Duchess, Brut & Duke; numerous cousins and dear friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pauline; his son & 6 daughters and son in laws: Lee Benson, Roseann (Ryan Popovich), Kimberly Swanson, Peggy (Shawn Harrington), Tammie (Travis Jackson) and Tammi Benson.  His Grandchildren: Johnny Harrington, Sadie Harrington, Kyle Harrington (Alexa), Thomas Gless (Brhandi), Andrew Gless, Karlye Jackson, Connor Jackson, Ryan Popovich Jr & Rmanda Popovich.  His Great-Grandkids: Remington Gless and Isla Harrington. Numerous nieces & nephews.

Cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00pm to 5:00pm Sunday June 9th at the McQueen Athletic Club.
