Claire Louise (Combo) Holman passed away on July 10, 2022, at the Springs Assisted Living in Butte.  Claire was born on April 28, 1933, in Butte, to James and Alice (Daly) Combo.

Claire graduated from Butte High School, then went on to attend Carroll College, where she earned her BSN in Nursing Education.  She worked general duty at St. James Community and Townsend Hospitals.  She also taught nursing at Mercy Hospital in Denver, Colorado.  She taught Practical Nursing at the Butte School of Nursing for more than 20 years.  She went on to be the Assistant Director of Nursing Services at St. James Hospital and became the contract nursing educator for Warm Springs and Galen State Hospitals.  As a teacher she trained and educated many nurses over the years, many of whom who went on to care for Claire in her elder years. In 1993 she finally retired from Beta Factor.  Claire was passionate about preserving the history of St. James School of Nursing.  She authored the book, "Nurses in White, St. James School of Nursing 100 Year Anniversary". Claire also volunteered and helped created a permanent hospital exhibit for the mining museum at Montana Tech.

On September 12, 1959, Claire married Earl James "Si" Holman at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Butte.  He preceded her in death in July of 2017.

As nurse Claire was outstanding and dedicated to her practice. She was somewhat of a first responder to any injury or illness to her extended family. Claire became the primary caregiver to her grandmother Nellie Daly. Nellie lived alone and lost her home in a fire and moved in with Claire and family until she passed the age of 93. Shortly thereafter Claire's father-in-law Earl Holman needed daily care and moved into Claire's home where she cared for him in her home until he finally passed nearly a decade later. Finally her own mother Alice Combo needed a loving homecare and she moved in with her daughter and lived with the family for the rest of her long life. After Alice's passing and now an empty-nesters Claire and her husband Si enjoyed a long devoted retirement together. Claire continued to care for the family, her aging brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces. Eventually as her husband succumbed to dementia Claire decided to sell the family home and move into the Springs of Butte. Claire's husband Si passed in 2017. Claire was living with at the springs with her eldest sister Shirley Rand until Her passing in 2019.

Claire is survived by her sons, Kenneth and Lawrence Holman; sister, Mary Ann Crowley; sisters-in-law, Sharon Madsen, Dorothy Combo, and Sharon Combo; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Claire's contributions to the healthcare history of Butte will live on and her contributions to this community and her family will be missed.

Friends may call on Friday after 10:00 am in St. Ann's Catholic Church.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am.  Memorials are suggested to the St. James Healthcare Foundation, School of Nursing Fund.
