After a brief illness Chuck Krause passed away on November 29, 2024 a St. James Hospital surrounded by family.

Chuck was a 'Butte Original' born to Charlie & Helen (Monahan) Krause, September 20, 1941.  He attended Immaculate Conception grade school and Boys' Central High School, graduating with the Class of 1959.  After graduation he attended Kinman Business University in Spokane, Washington, completing their Business Course in 1961. Chuck returned to Butte in 1962 and married his high school sweetheart, Lorena Maloughney.  Together they had 3 great kids, Rob, Tom & Christi.  After working at JC Penney's and Albertsons, Chuck started his 17-year career with the Anaconda Company as an Abstractor and then Land Manager until ARCO shut Butte down in 1983.  He was then chosen by the Butte-Silver Bow County Commissioners to fill the vacant position of County Assessor.  In 1984 he was elected for a full four-year term, and subsequently 4 more terms, retiring in 2004.  After flunking retirement in 2005, as he would put it, he began a third career working at the Town Pump Corporate Office in accounting.

During his tenure as County Assessor, he was a member of the Montana Assessor's Association, holding positions as President and Secretary/Treasurer.  He served on the BSB Planning Board and was appointed to serve on the East Butte RRA Board as Chairman.

Chuck was a dedicated and loyal employee, but he will likely be remembered by many for his passion for sports and loved spending time at Ennis Lake.  Everyone will remember his loyalty to the 49ers, Grizzlies, the Giants, the Fighting Irish, and the Boston Celtics.  And he will certainly be remembered for offering up a riveting pool during the entire baseball season!

Chuck was proceeded in death by his wife Lorena, daughter Christi, parents, Charlie and Helen Krause. In-laws, Frank and Tina Maloughney, Don and Shirley Warner, Kim Warner, Averil Maloughney, Les Nelson and Jack Vanisko.

Chuck is survived by his children Rob Krause & Tom (Vicki) Krause.  Grandsons Kristopher, Devin (Ruth), Brody (Krista) Krause. Granddaughters Lindsey (Zach) Bushman and Morgan (Matthew) Nava.  Sisters Suze Krause and Sheila Vanisko.  Brother-in-law Mike Maloughney and Sister-in-law Colleen Nelson.  Chuck is also survived by 12 great grandchildren.

Services will be held in the Chapel of Dolan Funeral home on Thursday December 5 at 11:00 am. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10 am.  Internment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery immediately following.  The family would like to invite all to continue the celebration of Chuck's life at the KC.
