Charles James "Chuck" Boyle died at home, sometime in the early morning hours of August 13, 2017.
He was born on July 17, 1947, the oldest son of Charles and Irene Boyle. A proud native son of Butte, he spent his formative years on Empire Street. He attended elementary school at the Immaculate Conception School until the 6th grade, at which time he and his family moved to Great Falls. There he made many lifelong friends, including Dennis Moira. After graduating from Great Falls Central, Chuck went to Carroll College to earn his degree in Education. During both high school and college, Chuck was a standout athlete, particular in baseball, and he could always be found at various college football games, cheering on his teams. He also competing at Speech and Debate, and to the surprise of no one, was a talented debater.
After spending his first year of teaching in Eureka, he returned to Butte, where he taught at Whittier school, where he met Coleen Boyle. They married in 1973 and had two children, Conor and Callie. They later divorced.
Chuck received a Master's Degree from the University of Montana Western and an administrative certification from MSU Bozeman (though it should be noted that he was a Griz fan), and his talent and passion for education was boundless. Chuck became a principal in 1980, at the time the youngest to get a principalship in the state. He was truly dedicated to educating students and he worked tirelessly to give his students every opportunity. He was a principal at Emerson School, Madison School, Greeley School (where he remained for many years) and finally West Elementary, from where he retired in 2003.
Outside of work, he was an avid golfer and could often be found hitting the tees at the Butte Country Club. Chuck loved sports of all kind, especially his beloved Denver Broncos, and he loved watching The Game with his mother, Irene.
Chuck had a wonderful sense of humor, a love for politics and history, and had the Irish gift of gab. He could captivate a whole room with his storytelling. Chuck fell ill several years ago, and while his health prevented him from golfing or traveling, he remained a larger than life personality.
The family would particularly like to thank the nurses and doctors at Saint James Healthcare, and all staff members at the Copper Ridge, who took such good care of him.
Chuck is preceded in death by his father, Charles, his mother, Irene, sister-in-law Kerry McMennus, as well as numerous family members in the Lyons, Spears, Todd and Cloke families.
He is survived his son Conor (Cheri), his daughter Callie (Matt) and his grandson Caelum. He is also survived by his brothers Jim (Debbie) and John (Kim) and their children, Kelsey (Ryan), Mike (Kim), Patrick (Mollie) and Colin (Madelyn), many great-nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins and countless friends.
Services will be held on Friday, August 18th, at Saint Ann;s Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 10 am followed by Funeral Mass at 11. Rite of Committalwill follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
