With great love and sorrow, the family of Bonnie Guay announces her peaceful passing on July 31, 2025, at the age of 87.

Born on April 21, 1938, to Arthur and Sophie Benson, Bonnie grew up in a close-knit family with four siblings—Duane, Art, Nancy, and Becky. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Duane Benson, an sister Nancy Bugni, and sister in law JoAnn Benson, nephews Dave Guay and Brad Benson(Vera)

In 1956, Bonnie married Joseph Guay, and together they had three sons: Michael, Marty (Tricia), and Shaun. Though their marriage ended when the boys were young, Bonnie raised her sons with love, resilience, and unwavering determination. She instilled in them the values of compassion, independence, and strength.

Bonnie was a woman of remarkable intelligence, grace, and quiet determination. Despite never taking formal piano lessons, she could play nearly any song by ear. She was a voracious reader, a sharp thinker, and someone others turned to for wisdom and support.

Her early career began as an Operator for the Bell Company, later working at Safeway Foods in Helena. After moving back to Butte, she owned and operated Bonnie's Grocery on West Granite Street  where she became a respected and cherished member of the community.

A passionate walker and adventurous traveler, Bonnie completed designated walking routes in over 40 U.S. state capitals—most of them on her own. She also spent many years as a dedicated caregiver, always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. Bonnie lived for several years in Japan with her son Michael, daughter-in-law Carol Guay, and grandson Jeremy—a time she deeply cherished. Her bond with Carol was especially close, and she took great joy in the love and companionship they shared. Above all, Bonnie treasured time spent with friends and family, which brought her the greatest happiness.

Bonnie also spent many wonderful years in Lake Havasu, Arizona where she was close to her brother Duane and his wife Jo, and many friends whom she loved dearly. Later in life, she moved back to Butte to be closer to her siblings Becky and Art, with whom she shared countless joyful moments filled with laughter and love.

She is survived by her siblings Art and Becky; her sons Michael, Marty (Tricia), and Shaun. Nieces and nephews Tina Bradford (Tiny) Wendy Boulter (Paul), Linda Benson, Tom Benson, Tony Taylor (Ann), Mark Taylor, Brian Benson, Ed Guay, Steve Guay, and Bill Guay. Grandchildren Jeremy Guay (Shasta) Jessica Janett (Cody)  Zach Curnow and great-grandchildren Vaden and Ender Guay.

Bonnie's legacy is one of strength, compassion, wit, and a deep and abiding love for others. Her presence will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

A graveside service will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bonnie's memory to the Butte Rescue Mission.
