Miss Betty Graham passed away on May 5, 2016 in the Springs Assisted Living Facility. A native of Butte, Betty lived a long and fulfilling life. Born to William and his wife Zita (Brennan) on October 27, 1921, Betty only weighed 4 lbs. at birth. She was her parent's only child.
Betty was also the first born child to the Brennan clan. Her aunts ran a foot race to the hospital to see who would be her Godmother. Betty's aunt Cyrilla took a shortcut through the Cinders Field and won the award. Her uncle John, played football for Butte High, and was so proud when Betty was born that he took the whole Butte High football team up to meet Betty, causing quite a ruckus in the nursery!
Betty enjoyed her childhood in Butte. One of her fondest memories was of her neighbor. Her neighbor was a blind judge, who was driven to work by the Chief of Police. They would see Betty walking to the Washington School and decided to give her rides to school. No one really noticed her means of transportation until one day she left her books in the squad car and they were delivered to the classroom by the Chief of Police.
After graduation from Butte High School on May 24, 1940 Betty started her career with the Montana Hardware Company and later transferred to the office at the Anaconda Copper Mining Company. Betty loved to say, "have typewriter, will travel" as she moved from site to site, before landing on the top floor of the Thornton Building. Betty retired from the corporate office of the ACM after 41 years in July of 1982. Betty was a member of the St. James Auxiliary; serving as President in 1985. She was a member of the Executive Club, serving on the Board for two years. She was also a member of the Butte Ladies' Ancient Order of the Hibernians, and the Immaculate Conception Altar Society.
Betty is survived cousins; Mrs. William (Corrine) Graham & family, Mrs. Hugh (Corrine) Graham, Bill and Janet Brennan of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Frankie Lea of California. Betty also leaves behind her special friends Donna, Jerry, & Connie Carlson, Mary Kane, Ed and Martha Simonich, Jack & Paula, Erin, Ryan and Maura Lynch Family. We want to give a special thank you to her friends and staff of The Springs and the staff at Highland Hospice. You made Betty's life so complete with your constant compassion and vigilance in her care. Donations can be made in her name to Highland Hospice or Our Lady of The Rockies
Friends and Relatives may call on Wednesday 11:00AM in St. Patrick's Catholic Church for visitation. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon in the Church. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
