Mr. Barney Ronald "Sonny" Maki passed in the arms of his Savior on Saturday, February 06, 2021, having been baptized shortly before his death.  Barney was born in Trimountain, Michigan on September 19, 1945 to Barney John and Edna (Waino) Maki.

Raised in the cultural center of Butte, Montana, Barney "kidnapped" his Irish gal, Charmaine Lowney, and married her on July 13, 1968.  They remained devoted to one another until his passing.

Barney received his education in Welding Fabrication, Drafting, and Small Engine Repair from Butte Vo-Tech, using the benefits of his G.I. Bill.  He was employed first by the ACM (Anaconda Copper Mining Company) and later at Rhone-Poulenc, formerly Stauffer Chemical, as a Fabrication Welder.  He taught his steadfast spirit of hard work to his sons and grandsons in every mechanical need by teaching them his mechanical abilities.  "Learn to repair or you don't drive." was his motto. Hunting and fishing was his greatest adventure.  "God's Country" was made for Barney.  Strong conviction and courage in suffering included many battles besides Vietnam.  Sonny suffered heart surgeries, seven in all, knees surgeries, two cancer surgeries, and COVID-19.  Cancer and heart failure finally led to his death.

Preceding Barney in death were his parents; his sisters, Sharon Baldwin and Marlene Johnson; and his brother, Dennis Maki.  He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Charmaine; his sons, Randy and Todd Maki; his daughter, Patti (Dave) Allinson; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brother, Dave Maki; and sisters, Sandy Rooney, Ginger Weinheimer, and Jane Lacey.

His final hunt is over. He journeys now through God's Country in Heaven.  Remember, you are loved!

Friends may call on Monday after 10:00 am in St. Ann's Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am.  Please observe all social distancing regulations. Masks are required. Rite of Committal will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
