Barbara Faye Lowney, a cherished daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025. Barb was born on September 3, 1959, in Butte, Montana to Edward and Mary (Thompson) Lowney. Barb's life was one marked by determination, devotion, and selflessness.

Barb was born with a hearing deficit that left her living between two worlds. From an early age her parents, her siblings, and her speech therapist (Mrs. Worl - a true angel) worked tirelessly to help her speak. She spoke clearly and read lips so well that often people had a hard time believing that she had no hearing in her left ear and only 25% hearing in her right ear. She attended elementary school in Butte. In the 8th grade, Barb moved to Great Falls to attend the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind. She graduated from MSDB in 1978. It was there that she learned American Sign Language. Being bilingual was one of Barb's greatest gifts as it allowed her to make many beloved friends in both the deaf and hearing world.

A few years after high school, Barb attended Butte Vo-Tech and earned a degree in data entry. In her early years, she worked as a data entry specialist at Montana Power and the Social Security Administration. Barb also lived a life of service to others. While in Great Falls, she worked in a daycare and at an after-school program for K-5 youth. She loved rocking and cuddling her day care babies and enjoyed mentoring and providing a safe, relaxing environment for her after-school students.

In 2016, Barb was diagnosed with breast cancer and fought hard to live her best life while dealing with the ups and downs of her medical condition. In 2018, she moved from Great Falls to Missoula and continued to live a full life while working on her health. During her years in Missoula, she volunteered for Missoula Aging Services and became a devoted Meals on Wheels driver. She truly enjoyed this experience.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Aila Camp, her brother Doug Lowney, and her brothers-in-law, Jack Camp and Rick Wagner.

Barb is survived by her siblings, Shelly (Jim) Fortune, Patty (Dave) Marne, Audrea Wagner, and Ed (Manda) Lowney. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews, Anne Rainey, Adam and Matt Lowney, Nicholas Fortune, Roshell Lee, Kirstin Gibson, David Marne, Heather Knutson, Rick and Brandon Wagner, Darby and Parker Lowney, and Macallan Box, as well as their spouses and children. She is also survived by her aunt Patricia Leskovar and her loving cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Ivy in Deer Lodge, MT and the staff at Stillwater Hospice in Butte, MT for the excellent and compassionate care that Barb received in her last days. We would also like to thank Denise and Ellie for being such kind and caring friends during her final months.
