Alice Patricia Ann (Calvin) Neary, age 77, passed away at home on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 2:13 PM with her husband, Dean E. Neary, Sr., at her side.

Alice was born in Flushing, Long Island, New York on November 07, 1946, to William and Elizabeth (Baker) Calvin.  At the age of three the family moved to Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania, where she attended first through eighth grade at Greentree Elementary School, graduating from Chartiers Valley High School.

In August of 1964, Alice met her future husband, Dean.  They were engaged on December 06, 1964, and married on June 12, 1965.  Dean was stationed at a Nike Hercules Firing Battery in Oakdale, Pennsylvania when they first met at a USO dance that was held on base on August 08, 1964.  Dean was discharged from the Army on September 24, 1965.  After Dean was discharged, they came to Butte, where Dean was born and raised.  He attended the Montana School of Mines, later Montana Tech.   While living in Butte, their first son was born on September 19, 1966.  He was named after his dad, Dean E. Neary, Jr.

The family moved to Missoula in 1968.  They adopted Dean's niece, Penny Rae Myhre, in November of 1969, after the death of her parents in an automobile accident in October of 1969.  In January of 1971, they had their second son, Brian Lee Neary, who was born in Missoula.

Between 1977 and 1980, Alice worked part-time as a rural mail carrier in Missoula, until the family moved to Ellensburg, Washington, where Dean Jr. graduated.  They lived in Ellensburg from July of 1980 until July of 1984.  During these 4 years, Alice took a job as a DNA job at a local nursing home.  At the age of 15, her son, Dean Jr., joined his mother doing the same job at the same nursing home.

In July of 1986, the family moved to Snohomish, Washington, where they resided until 2016.  Alice took a DNA job at the Merry Havenn Long-term Care Facility.  She worked her way up to Business Manager before retiring on November 07, 2008, her 62nd birthday.  In October of 1988, the Neary's began raising their grandson, Zachary Dean Neary, whom they raised as their fourth child.  They moved back to Butte on November 17, 2016.

Alice loved all forms of artwork and was very proficient at them all.  She was extremely talented at all types of crafts, and they occupied a lot of her time over the years.  They truly were her lifetime hobbies.  In addition to being artistically gifted, Alice was a phenomenal cook.  She was a true friend to those she knew and loved and if you were one of them you had a special friend for life.

A final historic note is that Alice is the last Calvin who carries the name of the famous John Calvin who lived between 1509 and 1564 and founded the Calvinist Church, to this day a quite popular Protestant Denomination in the U.S.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, William and Elizabeth Calvin of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Lucy Neary of Walkerville; two step sisters; six sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.   She leaves behind her loving husband, Dean E. Neary, Sr.; children, Dean (Nika) Neary, Jr. of Sultan, Washington,  Brian Lee (Kelly) Neary of Monroe, Washington, and Penny (Timothy) Parkerson of Butte;  her grandchildren, Britlyn (Ashley) Neary of Lathrope, California, Dosston (Nicole) Neary, who is currently stationed in the U.S. Navy in Lemoore, California, Krysta Neary of Bothell, Washington, Jesse and Jaden Neary, Ashton Smith, Wyatt Riedel, Zachary (Elena) Neary of Lake Stevens, Washington, Samantha Neary of Bellingham, Washington, and Sarah (Javier) Hernadez of Layton, Oklahoma; and her great grandchildren, Alexander, Kayson, M.J., Antonio, Dallas, Emanuel, Channing, Leo, and Isabelle.  She is also survived by her former daughters-in-law, whom she loved dearly, Janet Fredrickson, Terry Neary, and Lael Neary; her sister-in-law, Helen Denton; and her nieces and nephews, Shane Denton, John and Janelle Truzzolino, Dennis and Mary Kay Starin, and Shaun and Candi Holm.

Alice will lie in rest for a viewing at 10:00am to 11:00am Thursday at Duggan Dolan Mortuary followed by a religious service at 11:00am, then she will be moved to the mausoleum at Holy Cross Cemetery for burial.  The family invites those in attendance to a catered luncheon at 1:00pm  at the American Legion Hall, at 3601 Wynne Ave.

The family would like to thank Cara McKee and her staff for the excellent care they provided to Alice.  We also want to thank the Honey Bee Hospice staff a great team of very positive and caring employees for a job well done in Alice's final nine days of her life.
