Alice Downey McDonough, 75, passed away at home unexpectedly on September 22, 2023. Alice was born on November 3, 1947, in Butte, MT. Alice was born and raised in Centerville, something she was very proud of, into a large Downey family of 12. "Baby Alice", as she was known in Centerville, was her mother's best friend. Alice's oldest brother Patrick was a beloved friend and her guardian angel. Her sister Theresa has been her best friend and her source for daily phone calls and endless laughs, often more than one call a day would take place. Alice attended St. Lawrence and Butte Central Schools. Alice graduated high school early to attend the College of Great Falls to study Education. Alice later went on to earn her master's degree in education.

Alice married Bob McDonough on July 20th, 1974, in St. Lawrence church. Alice and Bob enjoyed 49 years of marriage. Our mother was a saint and took incredible care of our dad, she was his fierce advocate & loving friend. Alice was the proud mother of Brendan, Damian, and Marissa McDonough. As Alice's family grew, so did her dining room table. Brendan was the most fortunate to spend time taking care of both of our parents. Her ongoing wish remains today – that the girls' dating manual works as Brendan is still on the market. Dame added Rachel as his wife and Marissa added Roger. For the last 20 years Roger has been her favorite, and everyone knew it.

Alice's true joy was her grandchildren, she loved them all deeply and was involved daily in all their lives. Olivia Alice 16, Gabrielle Kate 14, Kolie Ann 7, and Brecken Robert 1 were blessed with the best. Over the last 16 years grandma didn't miss a single thing that her kids were involved in.

Alice taught school in Butte for over 47 years. She was never late, missed work only once due to helping Bob with open heart surgery, and never used a single sick day. Mom had an intolerance of nonsense, had high expectations of those she loved, and loyalty was her greatest gift. Mom's blue collar work ethic was inherent & she refused to delay what could be done today. The last time mom went to the doctor was the day Marissa was born, 42 years ago. She simply didn't have time for that nonsense.

Alice enjoyed her daily walks around Butte with her dear friend, Judy Brogan, for over 30 years.

Alice's favorite place was in the kitchen cooking for those that she loved, just as her mother Alice did. If you have been fortunate enough to enjoy one of Alice's meals over the years you understand we lost the best cook in Butte.

Alice was the foundation that our family is built upon, the mortar that kept us together, and the light that led us all home. Her final gift of graciousness was organ donation, gifting two people eyesight. Her final wish was there would no memorial service, as we were not to be caught dead at a luncheon or to accept condolences from those she wished take a swim in the Berkley Pit. Alice also insisted on no memorials, instead please cook a meal for your family & call your mother to tell her you love her. However, we are sure she approves of a family service and a dinner at Lydia's. We love you mom, we will take good care of dad.
